Those With Complex Cysts

Those that know my story know I recently had an u/s that discovered either 2 small cysts or one larger septated (complex) cyst.  It seems that a lot of ppl on here, of all ages, speak of having a "complex cyst".  I know that means it has walls/septations or debris or something different.  But I didn't know they were so common.  I thought they always meant "danger".  Mine is thick-walled too and I heard that is especially suspicious.
Can anyone w/ complex cysts tell me what they mean by complex in regards to their cysts, and the outcome so far?  Just doing my own research again.
Thanks,
J.

Hi Mama.

I have a complex cyst, which began at 2.5 cm and is now at 1.5, as of the last ultra sound. It is septated, and has debris, which in my gyno's opinion, because it shrunk, is a hemorraghic cyst, or just a corpus luteum that is bleeding inside itself so appears on ultrasound as a complex cyst.  I'm scheduled to have another ultrasound study done in about a month or so.  I guess if they stay the same or get smaller, the docs don't worry about them too much, it's when they continue to grow that it is more worrisome.  That's my understanding anyway.  Mine hurts.  And I believe it might change up and down in size depending on where I am in my cycle.  I also have a larger fluid filled cyst in the same ovary, both on the left.

I have a complex cyst as well. Mine has doubled in size, in the last year, to over 19cm at the longest axis.  The gynecology/oncologist that is doing my surgery does not seem to think that I have much to worry about in terms of malignancy.  The main concern is that it could eventually become malignant.  I am 52 and I believe that age has something to do with their desire to operate.  I hope this helps somewhat.

I have been told by the doc that I have a complex cyst with debris. I am going to be 27 in March. I had my first u/s Jan. 25 and my f/u is on Friday Mar. 3.  The report says that my right ovary contains a 5.1cm cyst with internal echoes (I guess that's debris) with a septation (a wall) and vascular mural thickening (not sure, maybe blood supply?)and free fluid in my pelvis in left adnexal adjacent to uterus.....Anyway, the "complex" ones have something in them, whether it's floating debri (which I've heard could be from blood) or growing masses or whatever....The simple ones are normal fluid-filled cysts. I have read that hemorrhagic or endometrial cysts can mimick cancerous tumors because of the complexicity of the cyst.(echoes and septations)
Well, I don't know if I helped any....I'm just trying to repeat what I've been told. So, hopefully if I got anything wrong, then someone will jump to correct me.
Take Care,
(((Raynbow

DnAzMama: My cyst sounds fairly similar to yours... it has one septation down the middle and was 1.5cm (small) when I had my U/S in January. My doctor said that if it weren't for the septation we wouldn't bother doing a follow up this coming March. The follow up is mostly to make sure that it hasn't grown and to see if it has resolved itself. Septated cysts still have a good chance of resolving themselves, but thick walls and septations can be signs that the cyst is growing.
Unfortunately my symptoms have been getting worse so I don't think mine has gone yet. I get dull aches in my stomach almost all the time now, so maybe it's even gotten bigger.
