Trouble with incision AGAIN

Trouble with incision AGAIN

I am having trouble with my belly-button laparoscopy incision AGAIN. To recap, it got inflamed/infected about a week after my surgery on May 9th (pus, yay!), and the doctor had to open it back up on the 24th to remove the suture knot that she thought was causing the reaction. (Oh, and also during that time period, I had a bad allergic reaction to the antibiotic they gave me.)

Removing the knot seemed to do the trick, as the pus went away and it closed up. But today I woke up and a tiny portion of it, maybe a 16th of an inch, had opened up again and started bleeding. Just a small amount, and no sign of pus this time (so far!), but I can't believe that it's done that two weeks later!! I had noticed it seemed a little sore yesterday, but never thought it might open back up! I didn't do anything strenuous yesterday. The only thing I did notable was take a nice, long bath for the first time since my surgery, but I can't imagine that anything in the bath salts would've caused the scar tissue to dissolve or something.

Has anyone had anything like this happen to them? It's very vexing and worrying.

I would not worry as long as there is no pus coming out of it.  Just give your doctor a call tomorrow and see what he/she has to say.  Kasie

I agree with Kasie.  Give your dr. a call.  It can't hurt.  I hope this too passes and you are well on your way to a complete recovery.

The hot bath may not have dissolved scar tissue, but it would certainly have softened the scar tissue and may have caused it to split.

Don't panic, but definitely call your doctor.  I think a common mistake is thinking that an open wound WITHOUT pus is ignorable.  If, in fact, it needs to be packed even a little, pus isn't an issue.  Wounds need to heal from the inside out.
peace,

Yes I had trouble with one of my incisions also!! My surgery was on the 5th of May. Mine was one corner of the incision next to my belly button actually the corner right next to it. When the steri strip finally came off (three weeks later)it didn't look right. Well it was a hole. I had been feeling some pinching and like a needle pricking. Then i felt it with my finger. A stitch sticking out. Well it was an end of the knot. Had to get it clipped, ointment and a steri strip and voila. It was weird one tiny corner of a 3 1/2 incision open. The other two incisions were fine. One was closed and the steri strips off by my ten day post op. Take care.
HUGS,
Darlyn
