Tumor Grades

My mom just got a call from the doctor and he said that her report came back it was a good tumor.  Does anybody know if that will give her a better prognosis?  Also, are there any survivors of stage 3c past 5 years?  I guess I'm really looking for a glimmer of hope.  I'm sure there are tons of daughters feeling this way and in a state of both shock in fear for what the future will hold.  I guess most of the statistics I have read are not the greatest...My mom is 48 years old, was a marathon runner and in the best shape...we just never saw this coming.  I'm 26 years old, getting married this August and planned every tiny detail for my wedding but never planned for the option of my mom possibly not being there. I can't even imagine my life without her.  Any positive stories would be great to hear...Thanks so much.

YES and YES.  My oncologist has 3 patients stage 4 like me and 1 patient is 6 years since diagnosis..the other 2 are over 5 years..
When I started spouting statistics she said to me "Ronni you are not a statistic you are a human being."  each person is different...
Is your Mom taking chemo now...Even if she has chemo in Aug. I know she will be there for you.. You have to think positive.. If I thought negative every day would be a waste...it takes too much time and energy... I send you hugs I am 58 years old... I know I will be another success for my Oncologist...

Hi Danielle...Don't read too much into statistics, because that is what they are...just stats. I am  Stage 4 and still doing well..... dx in Feb.04.. My Oncol. has a couple of patients who are still going good after 12 and 16 years respectively, so I take heart at hearing that too. Like your Mum, I was also fit and heathly, ate health, non-smoker, and no cancer in either side of my family, yet here I am. So there are no hard and fast rules on who gets this cancer and why. Luck of the draw I guess. Don't even think of life without your Mum because the cancer wins then, so you stay solid in your thoughts that your Mum is going to be around for lots of years, and I'm sure she will be. She will attend your wedding, and I'm sure she'll be bouncing your little kids on her knees in the future. :-). It's important for your Mum to stay strong mentally in this battle, and don't let it get to her, as I feel that is what has helped me survive so well thus far. I have a daughter in your age group, and she has been a terrific support for me... always so upbeat about my predicament, and that's been great for me, so you hang in and support your Mum too. If she sees/feels that you are coping o.k. then that will help her tremendously. Please keep us informed as to how she is doing, and I'm sure she will get lots of support from the girls here, who have lots of experience which could be of help to you Mum.
Wishing you all the best Danielle.. and I hope your wedding plans go really good for you...Hugs..Helen...

Thank you both so much for your replies.  This has been the most difficult thing I have ever faced. I think its even harder for me because it's always been just the two of us my whole life...No siblings and dad has never really been there for me. I've been here taking care of her since she was discharged on Friday from the hospital and although I have some dark moments, I do feel so blessed that we made it home.  There were many days when I didn't think we would get here...I know attitude is everything and I am going to put on a brave face everyday for her bc I know she would do the same for me.  I hope your're right Helen, that someday she will be able to hold my children...That is truly my dream...God knows I need her so much.
Her post-op appointment is this Wed. and we'll get the schedule for chemo.  I think she is starting in about 2 weeks...she is still so weak and the dr. is trying to give her the time she needs to regain her strength.  I believe in my heart that she will be a total warrior like so many of the women on this forum. You are all such an inspiration to both the women battling this disease and to the daughters of the women who are scared and fearful for what the future holds...
God Bless and I will definately keep you posted.
Thank you again for the words of hope...you helped more than you know.
Hugs back to you both,
Danielle

I could not have said it better than Helen. Please re-read her post in your times of need, because it is very true. Positive mind brings positive energy to body. This is so important. My prayers go to you and your mother. With love, Deandra
