Tumor has disappeared?? NOW uterus is large????

Well, I saw the onco yesturday and we were both expecting the ultrasounds to come back and confirm the tumor had grown, endometris was all over and I would be going in for a hysterectomy. The ultrasounds show that they can not see where the tumor is now? And that my uterus is the size of a 5 month pregnancy. I am not pregnant (tested too, even though tubes are tied) My doctor believes that the tumor has moved and is now "hidden" behind my engorged uterus. She is going in to see whats going on. The hospital is going to call with the date for the lap and they are also going to be injecting some fluid of a sort into my abdomen. This "fluid" is very sticky and will adhere to the organs inside. Then they draw out that fluid and along with it comes cells from everywhere. Then they test those cells for malignancies. She said that if she shes plain as day whats going on in there, she will then change the lap to a hysterectomy. Of course I wont know anything until I wake up.My doctor is having surgery on her knee tomarrow and will be out for 3 weeks. My surgery will be right after she comes back (1st week of March).Has anyone else ever heard of this being done before?? She also said they will be using CO2 gas to expand and explore. I will have incisions in my belly button, on both sides of the pelvis cavity, as well as tubes in my throat and up my "you know what"....GOOD GRIEF....lights camera action going on up in there huh???Any help would be usefull. anyone been thru this before???

I believe you are have a laparscopy done for diagnosis.  It consists of 4 small incisions where they put in a scope and probes so they can directly visualize the abdominal cavity.  It does involve using CO gas so they do not puncture any vital organs when they go in.  Fill the abdomin up with gas and they can see better by getting organs out of the way.  Anytime you go under anesthesia, you get a tube in your throat, because they have to make sure you are able to breathe, and that they can breathe for you, you don't want to feel anything, right.  The DR, is planning on putting in fluid into your abdomen and withdrawing it, it is another way to check for cancer.  When they take the fluid out, cancer cells, if you have ascites will come also.

With my problem, my uterus had enlarged, initially because I had fibroids, but before cancer did spread to the uterus. I think if that was your case, they would be moving you along faster, since the US allows one to see what is happening in the uterus.   My question to you is, what if her recovery takes longer than 3 weeks? is there a back up plan?

There are a number of women on this site that have had laparscopic procedures, and I am sure you will hear from them.

Yes, I asked her abut a back up plan after her surgery. She is having the meniscus repaired. She has already had the other knee done and it tok her a week to recover. She said she will be perfectly fine in 2 weeks. She did say that just in case, she has other doctors in her office that COULD do the surgery, but I prefer to have her do it, and not an under study (as I have already stumpped the medical field). She also believes that there are 2 seperate issues going on in there. An engorged uterus doesnt produce hormones, and mine are elevated enough that drs jump when they see it. My DHEA is now at 3107. She said a Tumor could cause this, but can not see it. Its there somewhere, shes going to find it. Also, yes...its a laporscopy and cytology (according to the hospital pre surgery paper order.

Thanks for all your help  :)

I don't see anything about DHEA  levels and ovarian cancer, they do talk about elevations in polycystic ovaries, which is usually cancer.  the Dhea is produced by a different gland, the adrenals and changed in the ovaries, I believe.  Also stress can raise the levels.
