Two questions about diagnostic imaging tests and menstraul cycle

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what is the best diagnostic imaging for the most accurate look at an ovarian mass/tumor, would it be CT scan, MRI or ultrasound? I would really like to know.

Also, could having a 6.9 cm ovarian mass cause your periods to stop suddenly (I am 31)? Is this a common thing if you have a sizable mass?

Thank you and happy holidays,

Marie

For Ovarian Cancer they use the Cat Scan. I asked my Doctor why not MRI and she said that is what they use and MRIs are also better with bone structure. You'll see everything with a Cat Scan. MRIs take longer and are more expensive.

A CA125 with it would be helpful. If it is elevated it doesn't mean its cancer. Did the doctor say that maybe it could be a cyst? Trust your doctors and if you don't always get a second opinion. And listen to your gut feelings. But sometimes they can get out of line.

I'm sure the mass you have can cause these problems.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

Look on the medical side of the forum. I asked Dr.Goodman a question 'Can cat scan see ovaries well'. Her answer basically was that while cat scan is helpful in looking at the abdomen and general pelvic area, the ultrasound is best for the ovaries.
This agrees with what my doctor said also.
Good Luck
