Ultrasound for Atypical Glandular Cells

by AJ3376, Aug 21, 2009 02:25PM
I had a pap smear that came back as 'atypical glandular cells of unknown significance.'  I am hpv negative.  I had a colpscopy, biopsy, and curretage on Monday.  It came back negative/normal.  I feel no relief.  I have been reading and 50% of the time this comes back as a false negative.  Also, the curretage only determines that the top part and lining of my cervix is normal.  I requested an ultrasound, and he said if I still wanted one in 6 months he would do one.  I am concerned because I have had weight gain, I think I look 4-5 months pregnant, and I have acne problems which are all fairly new things.  I think something hormonal is definitely going on with me.  Should I be more persistent about getting an ultrasound?  How likely could this be my ovaries or uterus?

I have one other question.  It is kind of disgusting, so I didn't want to ask...but I am still disturbed by it.  Three days after the colposcopy I passed a fluid filled sac.  I can't tell you what color it should have been because the sac was kind off a clear, gold color from the medicine he applied to my cervix.  It was about 3 inches long and 1 inch wide.  It was full of discharge, fluid, and clots.  My doctor said this is normal, but it didn't feel normal to me.  There is no way I could be pregnant.  I got off my period the week before, and I had my tubes tied after my last son.  Could you give me some insight on what this was?  Thanks for your help.

Dr. Goodman,

I had the ultrasound that you agreed I should have.  I had a cyst and a fybroid tumor.  The cyst was 1 1/2 inches and the fybroid tumor was about the same in size.  I also had atypical glandular cells of unknown significance.  My doctor said we would do another pap smear and ultrasound in January.  Does that sound right to you?

thanks

Hi There
that does sound right.
if you are over 40 years old,
I would add a biopsy of the lining of your uterus.
best wishes
