Update on Doctor Visit

Good afternoon Ladies!  I went to see the GYN/Onc today.  Things went really well.  The doctor is concerned about my family history of gyn cancers and is doing the surgery in about 3 weeks.  He is pretty sure that it is not cancer so we are going to wait until after I finish this semester of classes.  We decided to take out everything to take away any chance of it coming back.  We decided this after speaking with my mother and most of the women in the family had breast/ovarian/uterine or cervical cancer before the age of 50.    I will find out my surgery date tomorrow or monday to get this done.

The help with what questions to ask and fighting for the right doctor to do the surgery really helped.  Thank you so much.

Hi Ashley,

Sounds like you got some pretty good news all things considered.  Isn't it so empowering to find a doctor who actually listens?  Please let us know when you find out your surgery date.  We'll be thinking of you and hoping and praying for the best!

Thanks.  Yes it is helpful to have a doctor who listens.  My big concern is the surgical menopause.  But I feel like this is the right thing to do.  Only time will tell.  Thanks so much for your support and help.  Without this site I would have gone batty worrying all the time.

Hope you are feeling well

well ladies the good news didnt last too long.  After talking to a wonderful doctor and getting surgery set up for the 1st week of april, I received a phone call from the dermatologist today.  I have squamous cell skin cancer and need surgery to remove it.  But hopefully we caught this one early as well.  Can anyone tell me if there is a link between skin cancer and ovarian cancer?  I hope you all are feeling well today.

Hi ashlyhb,
Well, that isn't good!  I just googled it and hopefully, like you said, it was caught early.  It seems to be the lesser of the "bad" skin cancers.  I didn't see any information about a link between skin and ovarian cancer.  It seems that sun exposure is probably the worst culprit.  Do you think the dermatologist can do this in the office or will he need to do it outpatient?  I guess that would depend on the size of the area and if it's penetrated deeper into the skin.  I hope that you can still continue on with your original plan of surgery for the first week of April.

Take care!

Tough break.  I have that same worry and go to get checked every 6 months.  I have multiple acticnic keratosis.  I am a fair lady and spent way too much stupid time in the sun with my gal pals back in the 80's.
Let us know how you do .

Hey Ladies!  I hope all is well tonight.  I have both of my surgery dates!!!!  The skin cancer one is on 1 April and the GYN surgery is on the 8th.  Now I am getting really nervous and not sure how all of this is going to go.   But I may not post very often but I read almost all of the post.  Thanks for your support.
