Update on PinkTissue's Mum

Hello! For those who still remember me, my mum is in hospital for bowel obstruction. After the second recurrence, my mum is on chemo continuously. Even Avastin is not quite working. My mum is running out of drugs and the doc wants to use the drug Alimta. Dire? Well, it is dire. The strange thing is that throughout the recurrence, the cancer are hardly seen in CT scan. Even with the current bowel obstruction which the doc strongly suspect is caused by cancer, cancer could hardly be seen. My mum's CA-125 is creeping and now peaked at 274. And  for the bowel obstruction, the doc is pretty sure it would resolve 'naturally'. And throughout treatment, my mum is still running her business full time, having karaoke sessions and giving live performances on stage. The chemo doc is really all gloom and doom and it is really depressing to talk to him.  But the doc who did her cancer surgery is all sunshine & optimistic. Sometimes, I am really bewildered and not sure whether to be cautiously optimistic or depressed at my mum's condition. I would share with the forum on alimta since this drug is rarely used for ovarian cancer.

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom's bowel obstruction. It seems like that would hurt so much. And if I had one and the doc said it would resolve on its own, I think I'd be pretty upset. LOL I'd want him to unplug me or else.

I wonder why the doc wants to try such a different drug. I'm not familiar with it so I don't know much. Has your mom been through all the other various chemo combinations used for ovarian cancer? Hmm. Maybe this is a last resort?

I'm glad to hear she's feeling pretty good in spite of all of this. My friend has been fighting OvCa for 10 years (I thought it was only 8) and she still travels, stays busy with friends and has a great attitude like your Mom. I admire women like that who will keep on moving, enjoying every moment even though their body is not doing well. I need to take lessons from them.
