Use of growth hormones during chemo?

I am 24yo Stage I ovarian cancer patient (I posted about having my wedding during chemo about 2 months ago).  I received my first chemo treatment 2 weeks ago, taxol/carbo.  Feeling great but my white blood cell count is down to 500...usual for the count to be low after only one round?
My nurse is going to check on giving me a growth hormone to compliment the chemo.  I've searched pubmed with little success on this subject.  Anyone out there with some experience or advice?

Best, Libby

please read up on HGH.  Type in HGH into search and read the second site provided by a lady doctor. www.HGH-Info-Buyers-guide.org   There are alot of scams out there on HGH.

Hi again! I have never heard of giving a growth hormone and wouldn't know why she would want to give it to you. What exactly, did she say it would do for you? I was 26yrs old when I started chemo and no one said anything to me like that. The WBC counts are typical - mine hovers around 5-8 throughout chemo - don't forget they will be at their lowest 10-14 days after your treatment - they usually bouce back up a little after that.
Good luck,
Becky

Watch out for growth hormones! I think what you are saying is that your nurse may be prescribing Neupogen. It raises your white cell count. It's an injection in the arm. Best of luck.

Thank you for the websites and WBC count information.  I am definitely going to weigh my options very carefully before deciding...I had no idea it was such a debated topic.  Fascinating, really.  Thanks again -Libby

Imagine they are suggesting it to build up the immune system, but there are less risky ways of doing that.

There is a growth hormone called Neumega which helps stimulate platelets.  This drug is usually down the road after you have several low platelet counts.  I haven't heard of it being used for white cell counts.
