VEGF Trap or Precedent Clinical Trial? Help me pick my next poison

by doicat, Feb 06, 2009 01:12AM
Hello all!  I’ve got to make a decision in the next few weeks and I REALLY would appreciate ya’lls thoughts/comments/wisdom on this.   The carbo/taxol 1st line is not working for me.  I’m stage IIIc Clear cell.  I’ve been down to MD Anderson and they have suggested the VEGF Trap clinical trial “VEGF Trap and Docetaxolin Treating Patients With Persistent or Recurrent Ovarian Epithelial Cancer, Primary Peritoneal Cancer, or Fallopian Tube Cancer”.  It’s a phase 1/2 trial you can find at clinical trials dot gov.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, my doctor told me he is getting ready for a trial called “Platinum Resistant Ovarian Cancer Evaluation of Doxil and EC145 Combination Therapy (PRECEDENT)”  It’s a phase 2 trial also found at clinical trials dot gov.  This sucker just came out in December and US Oncology is getting ready to offer the trial at their facilities (I think) across the country starting next week.

Questions:
Anyone else out there currently participating in either trial?
What does anyone know about EC145/Precedent?

I’ve read a lot on VEGF Trap and not sure I’m ready for this….it looks like something I’d be interested in down the line, but not for 2nd line chemo.  Maybe I’m wrong.

I would really appreciate any ones comments on this.  Sisters, I’m trying to make an intelligent decision on this and am dithering!

Love to all

I really, really wish I could help you with some intelligent information.  I guess the only conclusion I would say about the Doxil combination is to look at all the wonderful women who don't make it who had the SINGLE application of Doxil at this juncture.

I am so hoping you choose the right treatment. Perhaps some heavy-duty praying about it would bring the answer.

This is a hard one I have thought about it all day and still don't know which I'd choose. I looked into both options.  I hope whatever you decide you get good results.  Love, Marie

I'd ask them specifically what the results were of the first phase and what, if any, effectiveness it had for the first participates.

From what I have researched, it sounds like Platinum Resistant Ovarian Cancer Evaluation of Doxil and EC145 Combination is a safer option...That's my opinion and would be my choice.

Hello! Haven't heard from you in a while...I've been researching this to death and I am also leaning on the EC145/Doxil trial.  Thanks for looking at it and your opinion.

Hope you are feeling better!
