Very Scared...something new has come up

by laney1974, Nov 08, 2006 12:00AM
Hi everyone, sorry to post so much, but today I did a pregnancy test just to test out some new stock (I sell preg tests) and it came back very faint positive, so went and bought a good brand from chemist and same thing.
Now I am only likely 4 days past ovulation if I did even ovulate so really too early to be a pregnancy anyway.

I'm scared because HCG was one of the tests the dr did to test for cancer markers and 3 weeks ago there was no HCG in me but now according to the pg tests there is!

Would that mean my cyst (getting removed in 4 days) might be turning cancerous!?????

I am not too sure I didnt know they could use pregnancy tests for cancer tests?  Are you sure you not just pregnant as they are very sensitive now adays these tests and you dont have to wait until your period is due?

Have you called the doctor to ask.
I am sure it is nothing serious I would be more inclined to say you are pregnant??

I know the dr tested my beta HCG levels as a cancer marker 3 weeks ago (apparently some cysts produce this hormone which is the same as the pregnancy hormone) and it came back clear.
The home pregnancy tests also test for the same hormone, I am only on cycle day 19 so highly doubt it is from a pregnancy & if it is, then it's still not good because I doubt an embryo would survive the surgery :(

My doc did that test too. My inclination would be to agree with the other gal that it's more likely to be a pregnancy(although I know that scares you too). She's right as to the preg tests being very good and if it was just faint maybe it's because it's early(not enough hcg being produced for strong positive). Since you only had it done three weeks ago I would think it strange to be turning cancerous(producing hcg)in such a short time. I didn't really think cysts could"turn" cancerous anyway(at least not in 3 wks). You need to talk to a dr asap.

Hey I dont think it has anything to do with your cysts either but I do know that they do test HCG levels for Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD). I have read about that on another site. They say it is very rare. You can read about it your self at

I would call the Dr. and see what he thinks too. Also safe then sorry.  Good Luck Mari

Thanks everyone, it's only 3 more days till suregery, so shall bring it up then

Might I suggest you bring it up now? They might be able to sneak in a T/V ultrasound. If you get even a faint positive day of surgery, they might cancel on you. They always run a pregnancy test.

I don't think this early anything would even be seen on an ultrasound, my period wouldn't even be due for another 5 days or so yet if I did ovulated on cycle day 14
