There is a condition called ovarian remenant syndrome. Basically it means that even if a microscopic amount of the ovary remains after surgery you can still develop a cyst.
If the cyst has halved in size it is NOT cancer. Which ever scan is correct it is under 5 cm and Ill bet on the next follow up it will be gone. The best thing you can do now is just keep an eye on it

My little sister who is 39 and has CP went in for a vaginal us because she was getting her period every 20 days or so. She found out yesterday that she has a mass on both ovaries R- 2x2x1.8 L- 3.1x2.6x2.5 I advacate for her so that is why I am wondering and worried sick. We have no history of cancer in our family could this be ovarian cancer or what could these masses be. Please ease our minds
Hello--I had a cyst on my left ovary, but it was on the right side of my pelvis because I had endometriosis and adhesions that were pushing it sideways. You could have a similar problem, or you could have a cyst that isn't attached to your ovary at all. If you are past menopause and are not on hormone replacement therapy, it is never normal to have cysts on your ovaries. Good luck--I hope you find out something soon.
