Visiting the Onc. tomorrow

Are there any specific questions I should ask my oncologist about my surgery next Tuesday?
I am visiting him tomorrow and want to make the most of my visit.  I am having an abdominal hysterectomy (open surgery).  My GYN said she didn't want to start me on hormones right away, but alot of the women on here say they have started on HRT, or the Vivelle Dot or all kinds of other suggestions.  I just don't know enough about what to ask to make the most of this visit.

I have a large dermoid cyst on my right ovary which does not appear to be cancerous, from the tests so far, (and praying).

Thank you to all the lovely women who have supported me these last few weeks, I hope you all read this and choose to stay on--the value of your wisdom is immeasurable to me, and I'm sure, many more women to come!

love and peace,
Morrowville

Hey there,

I'm so glad that your appointments went well and you feel more at ease.  Your doctors sure sound like they know what they are doing.
Had my MRI today and it was a lot better than I thought, I guess we always think the worst and then things turn out to be.. not so bad.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Peace and love to you...

Read my journal entry today, both my appointments went well.
So, Ashley, today I am not as anxious & worried as yesterday, and now you are!  How about we agree to take turns so that each of us sisters who have surgery on Tuesday share good days without worry?  I'll worry tomorrow, you already worried today!

Tomorrow, I'll worry about how we're getting through Monday with the bowel cleansing and not eating (not eating??? I LOVE TO EAT!  That's how I got so darn fat!  lol).
The doctor's told me today no insulin for me Monday or Tuesday, that will put my sugar levels way up there, but it's better than crashing & having to put something inside of me to raise it back up.

You're all in my prayers.  Such much worry, anxiety, hurt and loss combined with such power, strength, fortitude, peace and love here!

If any of you do decide to take hormones PLEASE make certain you are taking bio-identical hormones......I still think the HRT I was on might have been the culprit causing me to get ovarian cancer.....I am now using a bioidentical pregesterone/testosterone cream compounded by my pharmacist.  I am expecting miracles, but, alas....I have only been rubbing the cream in for less than a week now!  I will let you know how it is working in a month or so!
Peace.

Hi Ashley,

I had the same type of surgery on Feb. 1st. Don't worry, it will be ok. I too worried and was anxious, but after the surgery I thought "what was all the worry about?" *LOL*

So far I haven't been put on any HRT, but time will tell and I guess it depends on how I will be feeling.

Good luck with the surgery :-)

Hi!  As you know I am having surgery on tuesday as well and getting really nervous.  My main concern is the hormone therapy that the Doctor says i must take because I am so young.  Thanks ladies for all the questions to ask and the support.  I only wish i knew what to expect.  I am having a vaginal Hysterectomy and a laproscopic removal of the ovaries.

It is kind of funny Donna that you were the nervous one a week ago and I was calm and collected and now I am getting jittery.

Thanks again everyone.  Have a wonderful day!

Thank you for your post from NZ!  I am involved in international shipping, and I'm alwys sending containers to Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch--if you're in one of those towns, you've already seen my handiwork!  lol

I appreciate you and Chris's good suggestions, and will take someone with me today.
My hubby wants to meet the guy opening me up anyway (if they talk about making any of my bits tighter down there I'll make him pay!)

I feel better today, calmer.  I got a good night's rest, God Bless Xanax, and am looking forward to it all being over.

Have a great day ladies!

I can't really tell you because to be honest I don't remember. If you can, take someone with you, that way you will get the most out of the conversation that you have. Just take you Drs que. If he starts talking about anything you don't understan, do not hesitate to stop him and make him explain in language that you do understand. Just listen to him and go from there. I am sure that all will go well.
  I wish you luck!

Hi there,

I have written down questions, when I think of them, to ask my doctor and Gyn when I go to the appointments so that I don't forget anything so maybe you could do that.

I had a hysterectomy (open surgery) in 2002 and can tell you that although you may feel like a truck has run you over for the first day, you will just feel better and stronger as the days go by.  Remember that when they tell you to rest up for six weeks, DO IT, don't go doin too much.

I'm off to the MRI scan tomorrow and I am feeling quite calm, I think that is thanks to everyone on here.

My love and prayers are with you from 'way down under in NZ'
Take care and Kia Kaha (strength be with you)

Love Kim
