Weekly taxol or a trial??

Hi

I have posted several times on here before. My mum was diagnosed with OVCA stage 3 3005. She has had several reoccurances which have been treated with taxol and carbo. She last finished this treatment at the end of May and her numbers have gone up slightly this time. Her consultant has given her 2 options to try weekly taxol or to have weekly taxol plus a trial drug called saracatinib. We are all unsure as to what to advise mum to do. She is not ill from the cancer, her ca235 is 90. Her scan showed an omental cake but no organ involvment. Her dr wants to starts things now to keep the numbers stable with taxol or a trial and keep the platinums for when she needs them.

Can you give us any advise on weekly taxol or any trials they have tried?

this sounds like a perfect time for a trial. She is stable,not sick , and not in danger.

A trial give one the option of trying something new and unproven. Most trial drugs turn out to not be effective  but the only way to find new drugs is this kind of research.
The particular trial you describe uses a drug with known activity combined with an unknown. So your mother has the benefit of known therapy plus trying out something new.

the only down side is the possibility of extra toxic side effects.
