What is the average length of recovery?

I had a 9cm cyst and my left ovary and tube removed via c-section in October of 2006 and I'm still swollen and get a lot of sharp pains. I haven't been able to return to work and was wondering how long the average recovery time is?

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and I'm not confident that it will do me any good as the doctor I usually see (who notices everything) no longer works there. Alot of my symptoms make people think I'm pregnant but as I'd love to hear that is true, I'm doubting that as I don't think all of the issues going on within my belly are fixed. :(

So 7 months ...anyone got longer?

I could have been back to work in 6 weeks after my first surgery for OC, I just had a second and I was back to work in 5 weeks.  These were 4 to 5 hour operations.  I think you better get a new physician and have a new evaluation.  7 months is a long time.  Do you know your pathology report from the surgery?

my mom's recover time is still ongoing!  Since August 2006!  Pain is just now easing up 7 months later, but it took a 'pain specialist' to find the right mix for her.  Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) is a good one...but the goal is to find the right pain medication and the right dosage that works for you.  Yes, you can use combinations and don't believe the old belief that you will get addicted...it's simply not true (very unlikely) when being used to relieve pain.

Your pain can also be caused by the surgical clips that were used, or scar tissue, or numerous other things.  If you got a good doc, get a CT scan done and anything else that can help identify if there something abnormal where you have the pain.

So the short answer?  There is no set time...some women are good a week out, others months, others...well, a long time.  But you don't have to be in pain...both the NCI and DEA have been trying to make doctors rethink their misconceptions about opiod pain relievers for some time now.  Get pain relief and demand it!

7 months is a longgggg time.  After my hystorectomy C section in October2006, I was released from hospital after 4 days and out and about by end of 2nd week. And back to work after 1 month 1/2.  But it was about 3 months before I started to lift heavy objects. Good thing you are going to see a doctor and unless he is like your old doctor (caught everything) you are going to have to point out everything to him.  Make a list of questions, pains and aches and anything else unusal or uncomfortable.  Then go down the list with your doctor, leave space to write replys and do take notes. Be prepared to brief the dr on your medical history too, just so that when you pose your questions, they don't spend too much time flipping through your records.  Hope it's nothing serious and good luck tomorrow.

Thanks for all the responses! I wish my doctor's appointment was this morning, I really am tired of the waiting game. See, I'm afraid something is wrong because I was told that I couldn't lift things for about 3 months and I did anyway because I had to or things wouldn't get done. I have a problem staying still as well so recovery was a bit odd for me. The nurses reasons for my pain being so intense was because I have back problems and such but we'll find out at least something later on today.

*hugs*
