When to start another round of chemo

My wife was treated with carbo/taxol and responded well.  However, after a time, the cancer returned.  On 2/8/2010, her CA-125 was 204, and they started her on an 18-week regimen of carbo/taxol and Avastin.  She then continued with only the Avastin every 3 weeks.  On 2/22/2010, after her first treatment in this second round, her CA-125 dropped from 204 to 7.31.  Now, as expected, the cancer is again gaining strength.  The study she is in specifies that she not deviate from her protocol until her CA-125 has reached 42 or higher for two consecutive readings.  I know that the longer the interval between treatments, the greater the likelihood that the next treatment (e.g., the next round of carbo/taxol) will be successful.  On the other hand, the CA-125 readings have been rising steadily, and we hesitate to allow the cancer to gain strength.  We could strongly request that the next round of carbo/taxol (or whatever else they decide to go with) begin now instead of waiting the 6-9 weeks it will take to reach 42, which is inevitable.  Any thoughts?

Has she had any scans?  I think it was last year's research reports that indicated that there's no advantage in terms of longevity in starting chemo before you can see evidence of cancer recurring.  In other words, the CA-125 gives early warning that does not necessarily have to be acted upon until scans confirm the situation.  

Google "ovarian cancer" and check the professional associations that doctors attend to see the research reports.
