OVARIAN CANCER EXPERT FORUM
Which doctor ?

Which doctor ?

I found out that I have an enlarged left ovary and a very large cyst on the right ovary. I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago and was told then that one ovary was removed. Now I am getting ready to go back to surgery to remove the cyst. My doctor ask if I would want him to perform the surgery or if I wanted the cancer surgeon to do it? My CA125 test was normal. Who should I choose and exactly what does it mean to have an enlarged ovary? I have never heard of anyone having this?

hi there,
A gyn oncologist has more surgical experience than a regular gynecologist. Sometimes  repeat surgeries can be more difficult because of adhesions. Most cysts are benign. An enlarged ovary usually means that there is a cyst within it

As I understand this that you were told that one ovary was removed 3 years ago but your left is enlarged and you have a cyst on your right currently? I think I would go to the cancer doctor to have them do it.

Hi , I agree with marewill ,  I would definately let the cancer surgeon do it , they have more knowledge of cysts than a general gynaecologist . Hope everything goes well for you , Best wishes - Silver
