Worried Sick-fluid in uterus-bilateral cysts

by 2starfish, Feb 02, 2007 12:00AM
Can anyone help me with this? Docs seem to have dropped the ball.

Ruptured L ovarian cyst 7 weeks ago with excruciating pain, 2nd day of menstrual cycle. Ultrasound at that time found fluid in cul-de-sac. Pain persisted. Four days post-period, I began spotting, which lasted 5 days, followed immediately by "another" period. Doc said it was "fluke" period. Pain persisted, "spread" to back and R side over 2.5 weeks, at which time another "fluke" period occurred and lasted 2 days w/heavy bleeding. CT scan found fluid in uterus and 3 cm cyst also on RIGHT ovary. Doc has not mentioned testing fluid in uterus or CA-125 test; has not scheduled a follow-up appt, just keeps prescribing pain meds. While CA-125 may or may not be premature at this time, I would rather risk a false positive than find out later that this is uterine cancer.

1. Is a CA-125 test warranted at this time, even as a precaution?
2. Why is there fluid in the uterus? And should I "strongly suggest" that the fluid in uterus be tested?
3. Should tests be done to determine whether R ovarian cyst is fluid-filled or solid?

Thank you so very, very much for any advice you can provide.

I would demand to know why there is fluid in uterus. An US should be able to determine whether the cyst is solid or fluid-filled. Ask the doctor about the fluid get a CA-125 blood test. And if he doesn't answer your questions get a second opinion.

Is the fluid in the Uterus or in the cul de sac? If it is in the cul de sac it is probably from the ruptured cyst. Demand answers from your Doc it is easy to right an rx for pain meds but what is the problem? If Dr. has no answer get a 2nd opinion. Are you on any birth control? That might help regulate your cycle.

I too am very concerned regarding my ultrasound report. It reports Complex bilateral ovarian cysts right cyst unchanged since 10/06 left slightly changed in appearance. It is also noted that no free fluid is present but it does have a thickened wall.
My GYN wants a f/u us in 6 weeks. Is this a good plan or should we order a CA125 blood test?
I appreciate any help. This forum is a wonderful outlet.
Thank you

Thank you all for your help with this issue. I do so appreciate it.

The fluid is in the uterus. First ultrasound showed fluid in cul-de-sac post-left ovarian cyst rupture. Seven weeks later, CT scan showed fluid in uterus. I'm not taking birth control pills.  Does that information help? Thank you again. Your advice is invaluable. I spent over 12 years being misdiagnosed w/Graves' disease and nearly died from it, so I'm trying to make sure that I don't suffer consequences from being misdiagnosed with this ailment. It seems women are most often misdiagnosed!
