Worried about Complex Ovarian Cyst

I had an ultrasound 2 weeks ago for fibroids and indeed have two 3cm fibroids.  Unexpected was a 9x8cm complex ovarian mass.  The radiologist looked at a CT scan from 18 months ago for a splenic problem I had and there was a 8x6 cm complex ovarian mass at that time that was read out and reported to my surgeon who NEVER said a word to me.  The radiologist's impression was this is a dermoid possibly a germ tumor.

I am so worried that this could be ovarian cancer and it's been there for over a year and a half.  If it was ovarian cancer, would I have had other problems?  My GYN says she is comfortable that the size really hasn't changed and feels it is most likely benign.  I'm having a total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingoophrectomy in 2 weeks, but can not hardly function now as I'm so anxious and frightened.

Has anyone else had this happen?  Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Hi there -  I am here to try and comfort you as I am in the same sitution you are in have known now for 2 weeks 7.2 complex cyst on l. ovary.  I am in Maui,Hawaii went to the specialist in Honolulu = theese gals on here are terrific - they rec I see a gyn/onc which I did, he took another ultrasound yesterday saw the cyst very clearly and said, it has to come out -" what do you want a laporscopy, and save your uterus and right ovary or total hysterectomy?".  I am leaning otward the total as I am 52 and not young.  How old are you?  Its a good size cyst you have too, being complex both the radiologist and gyn/onc told me no way to know absolutely if they are bengin or cancerous  only 100% is to have surgery and then biopsy the growths.  Most are benign you have to remember that, I know your fear  it has been a nightmare for me BUT YOU ARE NOT ALONE.......you are having a hysterectomy soon?  They will then be able to tell you more - same situation as I am in. It seems each dr. has his own opinion.  Mine doesnt look "good" so away I go immed to surgery,this Tues. it has to come out they dont belong in there......

Thanks for your support - it means so much to know I'm not alone.  I am 46 and am opting for a total hyst on Decmeber 13 - I don't want anything left in there!  My main concern is that this has been in there for so long now!!!  Thanks again!
