Worried about pain and results

I have been having left sided pain with very heavy frequent periods.  Went to gyn for exam and she stated fibroids still the same size but do feel left ovary is enlarged.  Had a pelvic and trans ultrasound.  Never shown the report, just told by gyn that the left ovary is slighlty enlarged.  Recommended Lupron injections, three.  Declined after research.  GYN said good luck.  Since then I still have left sided pain, it is dull but there.  When i roll over i get a shrp shooting pain on left side.  Have pain down my left leg.  Bloating, take 2 fiber tables a night for conspitation and to keep me regular. Had GI series last year, everything good.  Wondering if I should go get a second opionion?  Worried why my left ovary would be enlarged?  Nothing seen on ultrasound except enlarged.  Am I over reacting?  Should I wait and see and go back in six months?  I have endo and fibroids but have never been told enlarged ovary and that worries me.  Help,,,,,,,,,

Thank you so much for your response.  I am going to get a second opinion.

Yes, please do get a second opinion, and soon.

In fact, I will be so bold as to suggest that you find another gyn.  I had an endometrioma the size of a grapefruit removed, along with my left ovary and fallopian tube, last December.  At surgery, it was discovered that I have a rather terrible case of endometriosis.  My doctor recommended Lupron; after researching the drug, I opted not to take it.  However, rather than dismissing  me and my concerns with a 'good luck,' my doctor worked with me, comparing drugs/side effects/my concerns & opinions. I am now taking a synthetic progesterone 10 days per month.  It seems to be helping and the side effects are almost non-existent.

Rooker, Yes, I would go for a second opinion.  Check around with your friends I am sure in talking with them you will find that Fibroids and Endometriosis are common and they may be able to give you a name of a Dr who has helped them.  You have to be an advocate for yourself, a DR should not write you off if you are uncomfortable with their plan of action.

Mickey, I am glad your progesterone therapy is helping you

However, i have a  quick comment on Lupron.  I know you both declined it and I was against it as well when hormone suppression was suggested to me, as I also had an endometrioma cyst, ovary and tube removed as well as a severe case of endometriosis.  I had done research on it as well and was not thrilled with what I read on the internet. My Dr's (gyno and oncologist gyno) assured me that the complications and side effects of repeated surgeries for endometriosis were far riskier than any of the side effects or complications caused by Lupron and the progesterone pill that I take daily.  After weeding out the .com's and looking into the .edu and .org sites I found many positives. I took my Dr's advice.  I am and have been on Lupron for 4 injections and have 2 to go. The only side effect that I have noticed is that I retain a little water (that is more of a symptom from the progesterone than the Lupron) well, that's ok, much better than going in for surgery every 4-6 months!

Once my 6 month therapy is complete, I will then go on Birth Control Pills for 12 weeks spurts to minimize my periods and the growth of endo and the possibility of another endometrioma cyst.   So far so good for me - everyone 's body is different and reacts differently to side effects.

Good luck to all and let us know if you get a second opinion-and what the outcome is
