Worried about secondary cancer after recent diagnosis

Hello all,

I am hoping you can help me understand recent problems I am having and give me some insight.
Some background,

I am a 24 year old female in general good health, and was recently diagnosed with Follicular Carcinoma (cancer) of the thyroid.  I have had half removed, and will be having the rest removed in a few weeks.  My thyroid hormone levels, all of them, are normal and functioning fine.

I have regular periods, like clock work, 28 day cycle, heavy flow first few days, but no excruciating pain and never had an irregular period, ever.  I started noticing pink discharge just before my period a few weeks ago, and thought nothing of it.  My period ended about a week and a half ago, and I noticed fresh red blood about 3-4 days ago, and have been bleeding ever since.  This concerned me, and I had a pap smear done which the swab was covered in pink blood.  I then had a pelvic & transvaginal ultrasound done which revealed these results:

"The uterus measures 65x40x44mm which is of normal size, anteverted with a homogeneous myometrium.  Endometrial lining measures 4mm and is proliferative in type but may not be appropriate for cycle.

The right ovary measures 26x19x30mm, the left 30x22x20mm.  Multiple follicles are noted greater than 13.  They are peripherally placed and possibly a polycystic ovarian syndrome would be a consideration."

Can anyone help me make sense of this?  I have no symptoms of PCOS, and am extremely concerned about endometrial/uterine cancer & ovarian cancer.  My periods are regular and normal, besides this regular fresh bleeding mixed in discharge I am having. I've had some bloating problems, and churning in the abdomen plus gas.  I am not overweight, not hairy, and have a 18 month old child, which I conceived easily with no problems.

When I look at my ultrasound I noticed that one of the "follicles" measures 1.3cm, is this normal? And is the description of my uterus normal? Can this be cancerous? Or lead to cancer?

Thankyou for all your help..

Worried.

I have had early stage ovarian cancer and have thyroid nodules that were suspicious for thyroid cancer.  I was told that there usually is not a correlation between the two cancers.  If they occur, they are usually separate cancers and are not linked or caused by each other.  I think you should definitely be followed by your endocrinologist for the thyroid cancer and mention all of your concerns to your gynecologist.  A transvaginal ultrasound will likely give you peace of mind.  If there is not a solid or complex cyst evident on this exam, your chances of ovarian cancer are very small.  Best of luck to you.
