abnormal left ovary comprised of complicated cyst, biopsy report

I'm 49, chronic back pain for a year, bloating and exhaustion, suspended period for 8 months but returned for two heavy cycles May - June.  Dysfunctional uterine bleeding had me in ER for a day of monitoring.  Went  to doc two days later, had bloodwork, biopsy and transab and transvag ultrasounds.  Results showed endometrium abnormal with tiny cystic spaces and  hetereogeneous tissue.  Right ovary has a smal simple cyst.  Left ovary is abnormal and comprised of complicated cycts with a smaller cyst of 2cm, perhaps cystic ovarium neoplasm.  Also, at the uterine fundus, more cysts are present.Simple hyperplasia without atypia was tissue pathology diagnosis. Followup was recommended.   I was called in again for more bloodwork and completed yesterday.  My biggest worry is the discomfort and belly that won't diminish and I am 5ft 9in, 140lbs but look pregnant (confirmed that I am not).  I have one child, born 8 yrs ago. The earliest gyno appt I could get was late July.  I'm worried.  Doesn't sound too great to me.   How long do diagnosis usually take?    Thank you.

Often for a complex cyst doctors will wait a month and re-do the ultrasound to see if the cyst has gone away, gotten larger or stayed the same.  It is possible that the cyst is a simple cyst and will go away on its own.  Since you have symptoms, you may want to see a gynecologist/oncologist.  They handle these problems even if there is no cancer.  They are experts and will be able to give you much more information.  The odds of a cyst being cancer are less than 1% but don't take any questions.  You could also have a CA 125 blood test done.  The only way to tell if a cyst is cancer is to have it removed, but it is usual to wait a month to see if it goes away on its own.

Good Luck!

You should really look up information on grandulosa cell tumors they are rare. I was not having my period for almost a year all my blood work for my hormons were normal but I the only other problems I was having was bloating, gas, heartburn, and diarrage off and on I do have polyecyctis ovaries. Then I ended up in the hosital for pelvis pain now I have no left ovary or tube and have cancer I am only 30 and we were tring to have I baby. You should really ask your doctor to check your inhibin A and B levels along with your homorons. For this type of cancer is rare and slow growning and on a ultersoung it can show to be a cyst. Best of luck to you
