We got the results of all blood work. Everything was within normal range, thank God. We still have other drs. to see and surgery consideration, but the terrible fear is removed. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for the information and good wishes. We go tomorrow to NY University Medical Center for a second opinion. We were told that the ovary should be removed, by another gyn. We still await the AFP test results. Please pray for my daughter as I will pray for you. Many thanks.

From my experience, alpha feta protein is a tumor marker for the type of cancer that I had-immature teratoma. It may also be a test for other germ-cell ovarian cancers as well. These cancers are rare, but if they occur, it's usually in teens. Alpha feta protein is also a test given in pregnancy to test for fetal abnormalities. I had the test both when I was pregnant and when cancer was suspected. It actually came back normal both times, even though I had cancer. I did have a healthy child, though. Please don't be alarmed that this is a cancer tumor marker. As I said before, ovarian germ-cell cancers are rare so the odds of your daughter having it are extremely low.
Good luck to you and your daughter!
