appropriate surgery

by concernedsisinlaw, Jun 08, 2007 12:00AM
My sister-in-law was recently diagnosed with stage one ovarian cancer.  She has been told that she needs to have a the cancerous ovary removed.  she is a single mom and has had her tubes tied.  I am wondering why the surgeon would not do a complete hysterectomy to lessen her chances of reoccurence?  If I were in her shoes and fortunate enough to have caught the cancer so early, I would want the bestchance possible.  help.

Did your sister-in-law have an exploratory laparotomy?  Just wondering how the doctor deterimined your sister-in-law has ovarian cancer stage I when it doesn't sound like she's had any surgery yet.

Is your sister in law seeing a GYN/ONC, if she hasn't had surgery, she should.  It there is any question of cancer the surgeon should be a specialist with advanced education in women's cancers.  Good luck to her.
