ascites or just abdominal swelling?

Can small ovarian cyst cause abdominal swelling?
Mine is 4cm and I look like 4month pregnant.
Can this be ascites from ovarian cancer?

Hi there
if you have had a pelvic ultrasound, it would pick up ascites
a small ovarian cyst by itself would not cause swelling

the most common reason for swelling of the abdomen in the setting of a normal xray such as an ultrasound or CT scan, is distension from bowel gas.

this can happen for many reasons - something simple such as diet too much dairy or legumes
to irritable bowel syndrome
to other bowel disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease
take care

Hi, Rachel. Thanks for the comment.

I guess abdomeninal swelling is caused by a large cyst or it could be ascites.
I have a dr appointment next thursday and I hope she will take my symptoms seriously.

Best wishes to you too.

Hello, I'm not a medic but I have a complex mass on my ovary which is currently under investigation. I don't really have any abdominal swelling so I would certainly get your swelling checked out.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Best wishes

Rachel
