Hi SweetPea, No sure what the doctors think about ascites, but usually a low protein diet can trigger it.  Best way to naturally drain off ascites is to drink goat milk.

It only took two weeks for my stomach to extend to look like I was 7 months pregnant and it was the ascites.  This may not answer your question, but during my surgery (full hysterectomy and removal of the pelvic omentom), 4 liters of fluid (ascites) was drained from my body.  Yes, the pathology report came back as Ovarian Cancer and during my first 3 sessions of Chemo, my body continued to release the ascites.  At the moment, I'm in remission with no further ascites.  Tomorrow I visit my Gyn-Oncologist and hope the news remains the same.

Since I try to do things in natural ways, I'm really glad BeachGal7 shared the info on goat milk and will make that part of my diet.  If you are experiencing a very small amount of ascites, try the goat milk.  However, if the ascites does not go away within a few days or perhaps should worsen, consult with your doctor immediately.  Don't let it get as bad as I did.

I asked Dr. Goodman about ascities and here is her answer:

"All chemotherapy can treat ascites. Avastin can be helpful in the treatment of chemotherapy resistant cancer that is causing ascites.
Ascites is not always an indication of malignancy- there are 2 main types: exudative ascites from malignancy or infection and transudative ascites from liver disease and heart failure."

Thought you might want to see this, because it would have been hard to find in other post.
If you have already been dx with ovca, the ascities are probably from it and chemo should help.
Good luck.
