back pain with ovarian cyst

I've been dealing with these annoying ovarian cysts since August.  I've had cysts grow as large as 8 cm.  They seem to either "leak and resolve" or burst.  I was just diagnosed with ANOTHER cyst close to 4 cm. two weeks ago.  My doctor seem to like the "wait and see" approach to these never ending reoccuring cysts.  I had a CA-125 test done that came back normal.  Ever since I have been diagnosed (had ultrasound to diagnose) with this recent cyst, I have had THE WORST back pain.  It is right at the end of my back, through my butt cheek and down my leg.  I am wondering if anyone had ever had this pain related to a cyst before.  It is so severe it is almost dibilitating me.  Also, since I have had these cysts that have been reoccuring so frequently (I seem to get "a new cyst" every month that grows to over 3 cm). I've tried BCP and they aren't working.  I'm going to another doctor this week for a second opinion.  I'm afraid these cysts (which always seem to be hemorrhagic) are going to become cancerous.  Anyone out there who has cysts and pain like this?  Thanks.  Heidi

Hi Im 16 and I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cyst yesterday. It hurts when I sit and stand. My back hits on the lower right side. I have the worst abdominal pain and it hurt when I peed. I cry about every 10 minutes. They give me medication but it seemed like nothing helps. My stomach growls but I'm not hungry

I am 29 and have two sons aged 8 & 9, ive suffered ovarian cysts since having them, mostly hemorraghic. They are diagnosed at 4- 5 cm each time i have u/s so am advised to wait and see. They disperse in the end and no surgery is needed. It seems that every other month i have them im so used to them now that i kno when i have one and know when they are twisted and bleeding into themself, the pain is excruciating im doubled up with it, it is always on my right side with goes across my lower abdomen into the right lower back and radiates down right leg i get shooting pains in my bum, cant sit, cant stand, its awful. just had that experience last night hence why im browsing sites. Ive had enough now, ive never been offered anything in the last 8 years of having them, apart from freezing my ovaries which i dont want as im trying to concieve. Surely this is not good for your body and surely there is some form of help out there. Im going to make yet another appointment with doctor id be very appreciative if someone could suggest what approach i should take and what to ask for.
Many thanks for reading about my experiences and look forward to any replies.

I have 2 of them on my right ovary,  I had a hysto about 15 yrs ago and had no probs til now.  I have loculations (major) and they had bled internally.  it is now getting to the point the pain is getting too much. so it is back to the drs next week.  my ca125 reading was low but cancer has not been ruled out yet.

I have the same pain. It goes from my lower left abdomen near my hip bone all the way around my hip to my butt, lower back and upper thigh. it is an annoying pain that won't go away. it interupts my sleep and i can't get comfortable durning the day. I am having a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy done next Thursday. I know i have a bleeding cyst on my left ovary and the doc said that and lesions are causing the pain. He is going to remove the cyst and clean up the lesions. hopefully that will help with my pain. We'll see...

Hi I am new. A few weeks ago I slipped on ice. since I have had back pain that radiates into the crease of my left thigh with numbness onto my vagina. weird sensation. I have a buldge on the left side of stomach. Been to dr. thought it was hernia. Sent me to surgeon she sent me for cat scan.negative. went to orthopedic had xrays.negative. sent me for mri. showed herniated disc says the spine dr. he says the buldge is not from the disc. What is it? can it be muscle? I continue to have lower back pain on left side near hip down into the crease & into my thigh. Feels like my ovaries on left side hurt. I am premenaposal so I have skipped my period as they are becoming irregular. I now have an appointment on Monday with OB/GYN to see if it could be my ovaries. Wouldn't the MRI show something? I am confused and need to know. is it just a spained back & stomach or could in be something more.   Any advise would be great.

The back and leg pain is one of the most common complaints with ovarian cysts.  The statistics on the subject, for whatever they are worth, indicate that having repeated, cystic ovaries actually reduces the chances of developing ovca.  Apparently when the ovaries develop cysts, the ovaries are not functioning, and this period rest reduces the chances of cancer.

I've been deling w/ these too since July!
Every single month. I know what you mean about the pain. It feels like it will never end. I guess my ovaries just decided to stop functioning then!
All I can say is my ob/gyn gave me basically 3 choices;
1) BC pills,
2) Lupron (i believe that shuts down your ovaries)
3) a complete hyst

Right now I'm going the bc pill route, so far it doesn't seem to be working (some women still ovulate when on bc) for me either. I go for followup US 2/06. I basically want to try everything before I give up my womanhood. I wish I could give you more advice. What BCP are you taking? I'm on orthocyclen. I am going to ask my dr for Provera next. It is a progestin only pill, which I've read on a previous posts that progestin only helps w/ cysts.
I was also worried about cancer b/c my ca 125 came back at 46.6, but I have endo & heard that can cause an elevated result.

As for pain my dr gave me 600mg ibuprofin and percocet. It sucks that drs can't "prevent" they seem to just "treat symptoms"

Keep in touch & let me know if you find something that helps.

Oh... forgot to mention that yes I get back pain esp. tailbone(in the buttcrack) pain. It hurts to sit sometimes! Mickmanda suggested Roboxecet(sp?) for for spasms. Check out our post from a few days ago titled cyst compl. on 1/20.
I will be asking dr for that. Kat
