ca125 changes

I had an ovarian mass removed and at the time of surgery the pathologist believed it to be benign so no staging was done.  The next day another pathologist reviewed it and did not like the number of cells and mitotic count of 4 to 6 and sent the pathology to another hospital.  Their finding was that it was either a fibroma with mitoses or a grade 1 fibrosarcoma and favored the fibrosarcoma.  The pathology was also sent to MD Anderson and they favored cellular fibroma. They recommended that I be followed in a close manner.  I am seen every three months and my ca125 has been going down until this last check.  My CA-125 was 45 (pre-op 7/06), 9.2 (3weeks post-op),8.2 (12/06), 7.5 (3/07) and 8.8 (6/6/07).  Does the CA-125 go up and down?  When should I become concerned?  My cat scans have been clear.

hi there,
It sounds like you are being well taken care of. one only worries when ca 125 values double and triple. there is always variation in labs by a few points. Your Ca 125 values are fine.
best wishes
