ca125 risen up to 5000, stage 4

dear dr, my mum  is 53 and had stage 4 ovarian Caner which was been found on March 2006,  after 3 chemo she had the operation on Jun 2006, it has been release for about half year since that.but  the ca125 rise form 11 to 45 with last Nov, so she kept anther 9 chemo totally with change about 5 medcines , it seems that the chemo is not working on her anymore. this Sep her Ca125 was about 700 and it could found the Lymph node in both iliac artery, left Axillary, left Clavicle. yesterday we went to hospital to check ca 125, it already risen up to 5000... it  is really shocked by us, and really want to know  if any other drugs could use for her... by the way she use Helixor the immuni treatment and Endocrine treatment now

Hi Furla... I have a friend who is now on Etoposide as a single agent, and she is doing very well, so hopefully this one could be good for your Mum too. I do hope so. I hope you will come here in the future, and tell us how your Mum is doing. That is a good idea not to tell her about the high CA.125. No point in stressing her, as there is nothing she can do but take some treatments. It's good that she is able to enjoy her friends, and going out. That's important to have a life away from cancer.  Hugs...Helen...

Thanks Helen,

I am going to ask her to take some Etoposide capsules next week with Femara together(dont know if it is ok to use it in the same time?) and if Etoposide still not work for her, then might try Toptencan for another chemo  next  year,

mum is not know the really number of her ca125,  otherwise she will stress up for it, when she feel alright, she go for the dinner; the meeting; chat with her friends; go out for a walk.... she enjoy it...

take care and all the best

Furla

Hello again... your Mum has had lots of chemo, but there must still be one that could work for her. Don't let her Doctor give up just because her numbers are high.... that is not always a sign of more cancer, as in my case. I had scans in November that showed no new cancer since December last year, yet my  number is over 9000. My tumour is Oestrogen Positive too, and I've had Femara and Tamoxifen, but neither really worked for me. Has your Mum had Avastin, as that is being heralded as a very good chemo too. Maybe worth talking with her Oncol. about?
I hope you and your Mum have a nice Christmas and she doesn't worry too much. Stress is not good for us, so I hope she can stay calm.  Please let me know how she is doing. :-)  Hugs..Helen..

Hi dear, thanks for the reply and you message is such powerful... as mum has 17 chemo totally since March 2006, there are 3 before operation and 14 after that.after she used 5 times of Taxol/Carboplatin, the ca125 start rising, then we change to Taxotere/Carboplatin(Oxaliplatin);Ifosfamide;Gemzr, also she use Doxil in the end of Sep, but it seems that not under control as well. mum's er++. pr +, so she use Femara  for the new treatment , i am going to see her doctor tomorrow to get some advise on medcine VP16. dont know if any other  new treatment or updated medcine except chemo?

Hello... I think you meant to post your question to the Doctor's section, but I just want to say to you that my CA.125 is over 9000, so having high numbers doesn't necessarily mean that your Mum is beyond help. I was dx Stage 4 in Feb'04 and although I've been doing chemo almost non-stop,  I'm still doing o.k..
You say that she only had 3 chemo treatments before her operation, but what about after the operation? Did she have Taxol/Carboplatin? If so, then that seems to have worked for her, so maybe she could go back to that again? There are many chemos that your Mum can try....Doxil is another one that seems to get good results. I wish your Mum well, and hope that she will soon feel much better, and get some chemo that will work for her. Hugs to you and your Mum.....Helen...
