cancer vaccine?

by dawnesdemon, Sep 13, 2004 12:00AM
I am 58, diagnosed 18 months ago with stage 3c/4 ovarian cancer.
Hysterectomy and bi-lateral oophrorectomy, omentectomy and de-bulking performed, with residual nodules in mesentery, peritoneum and pelvis. Post-operative had succesful carboplatin chemotherapy, bringing ca125 to 0. Spent 2 months in Bavaria undergoing complentary cancer therapy, which will complete its one year course in October. I felt extremely well and fit until January this year when I developed a cough,  by April was seeing a chest physician, June a biospy detected a malignant lymph node, followed by broncoscopy revealing two tumours of ovarian origin. I had another broncoscopy with laser treatment, followed several weeks later by brachytherapy. Last weeks follow-up broncoscopy revealed a new tumour in the other lung, and I am due to have another broncoscopy with brachytherapy next week to "finish off' the first two tumours and nip the new one in the bud. My oncologist has predicted that I will need further chemotherapy, but is holding off at present. My ca125 rose steadily from the 0 at end of chemotherapy to 57 by June, but had remained there in August at last test.(I take this as a positive sign although I am still coughing constantly) My chest physician mentioned that one of his patients went to USA for a vaccine. Can you give me any information on this and how it might help my situation?
