cat scan

OK. So I had severe pain on my right side over ovary. Pain on both sides when pushing down on them. Went to ER...took to long so just went to doctor (Gastroenterologist) for follow up for IBS which I don't believe I have....he says appendix. I tell him that both sides hurt, he says appendix. Sends me to get CAT scan. I also asked if ovarian cysts can mimic IBS, says no....
After the test they said, call your doc for results. By this time is after hours, I said, can you please tell me, I was in the ER last night and don't want to end up again if something I can start taking care of asap....
They come back and say all we can say is that it is negative for the appendix.

Does that sound like they are trying to withold that something more serious is going on here?
They said they called and left results for doc. I called my doc he says no, he didn't get the results, he will talk to me in the morning. I am paranoid and thinking maybe cancer...maybe they don't want to open up this can of worms yet???

I am so stressed. Any input or similar stories appreciated.

I have the opposite of weight gain. I have lost ten pounds in two weeks. I just can't eat. And the diareah is not helping. I went to ER and blood pressure shot up around 30 points. I am dehydrated I guess. And have aweful migraines. I love to eat, so this is really interfering with my daily life. I also love coffee (spanish coffee as I am Puerto Rican) and I can't stomach that at all. I force myself to drink and two minutes later, (excuse my bluntness) I am on the toilet. Ugh.

I am also passing a tremendous amount of bile at times (gallbladder out)

Thyroid issues, fluctuating back and forth is really not helping my nerves any either.

Hi.  My situation is similar to yours.  For OVER A YEAR now, I have been having a dull ache on my mid to lower right side, diarrhea, nausea, back pain, heartburn, you name it!  At first my PCP said, oh, probably gall bladder - did ultrasound - negative.  Then he diagnosed me with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and put me on a drug called glucophage.  No results. I went back several times and he said either IBS or Gallbladder. Not.  I asked if the PCOS (or possible ovarian cyst) could be causing my pain and discomfort, and nasty symptoms, and he said, no, too high up. Hmmmm.  FINALLY, at the end of July, he ordered a CT scan to "rule out" a pancreatic lesion, gall stones, liver lesion.  Took several agonizing days for the results - where I was freaking out and calling several times a day - and finally got a nurse ( not my doctor, or any doctor!) who read the results and said negative on pancreas, liver and gallbladder, but I have an 8 cm ovarian cyst on my right side that looked suspicious and I would need an ultrasound!!!!! Needless to say, I completely FREAKED OUT and immediately thought OVARIAN CANCER. Luckily, it has been found through 2 ultrasounds, a visit to a GYN/surgeon and a second opinion with a GYN/ONC at Cedars in L.A. that it is a simple cyst, although the size is of concern, and needs to come out on Oct. 25.  No one would hang their hat on the fact it's benign, but they think it is. So, don't worry. I too was worried that they weren't calling me with test results because the results were VERY BAD and they didn't want to open a can of worms with me.  What I've learned so far in my journey, is that you MUST be your own health advocate.  Don't settle for answers that don't make sense or that you don't understand. Ask as many questions as you need to! Good luck!

Very happy to hear all is okay with you...did the cyst not show up on ultrasound with gyn? thank you for response. It is 6:30 am and I have been unrestful in my sleep. Will post results when I get them. I think it is so important for message boards like this. If I did not have this to read, I would be left in the dark. You can only understand the frustration if you are going through something similar.

I had a similar situation a few years ago.  I complained about pain during sex for over a year.  OB told me to change positions.  I went in to see if it was a cyst.  No exam.  Just told to change positions.  My reg. dr. felt around and sent for US.  They found a cyst.  Switched OB and he did another US to see the size.  It had grown since my US with reg. dr.  Put on BCP, watched for few months.  It still grew.  Sent to surgeon for exploratory surgery.  It ended up that it was a mucosal cyst that was 10 cm x 7 cm.  They took my left ovary, the tube, and uterus (because previous OB did my C-sections and it looked like a shotgun had blasted through it).  Was left with right ovary and cervix that is fused to my bladder because of a leep procedure previous OB did.  Now I have another cyst that is 4.6 cm x 3.4 cm with blood in my urine.  I am being sent immediately back to my surgeon.  I go Tues to find out what we are going to do.  My new dr. recommended my suing my former OB and he would testify because I was only 26 at the time.  We went through the procedures of getting my charts... Guess what... my old OB never recorded my complaints about a possible cyst.  Go figure.

Ovarian cysts can mimic IBS and have a lot of pain. I had diarreah with mine pain down my leg and my back. It hurt to the touch. My right ovary felt like it was going to explode especilly during intercourse.. please be vigilant do not let up.  call your dr. and if you need to go and sit at the drs. office until you get the results.  It is your body and you need answers.  Maybe call and see if you can get an apt. for tomorrow to go over the findings in the er.  Even if the cyst looks comples there is no real way they can tell if it is oc until they biopsy it. Please try not to freak out.  I know this is easier said then done.  when people get nervous their bowels start acting up.  So that may add to some of your symptoms. keep us posted please

God Bless

L.
