cmplex cyst with septation about 3 cm

by kets20, Apr 02, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,
3/21 an US revield a complex cyst w/ septations on left ovary (3.5x2.5 about, the ovary itself around 4x3). I have been bleeding for 2 months, am now on dasy 12 of progesteron with just some decreasr in the bleeding. I also have lower ab cramps. The US also showed no free fluid in cul-de-sac,  and homogenneous echogenicity. My GYN thinks I should wait and follow with another US. My ca-125 BTW was 11. Obviously I'm a bit scared and am wandering if I should get a second opinion, perhaps from gyn/oncologist. I live in upstate ny (between nyc and albany). thank you very much.

Hi there,

The cyst on your ovary could be secondary to ovulation. I agree that repeating the ultrasound is the best first step. If the cyst is gone next time you have an ultrasound, the cyst was physiologic and related to your menstrual cycle. If the cyst continues to be present  but is not changing, that could represent a benign tumor. If you are having pain from it or it is growing, that is a reason to remove it.

I am actually more interested in your bleeding. If you have not had an endometrial biopsy, I strongly recommend it
best wishes to you

I just had a vaginal ultrasound today and it showed that I have a 5.1 cm mass that 4.0 of it isn't cystic. I went to obgyn 9/2006 complaining about pelvic pain and long menstrual periods. Had an unltra sound then and only showed fibroid in uterus. Now these months later this mass shows up and still in horrible pelvic pain that now has moved into abs and higher. We tried pill for 3 months and it only made my periods worse and longer never weakening the pelvic pain.
One surgeon says hysterectomy but I'm going back to the original obgyn but I'm having a trust issue. Not sure what to do
