complicated ovarian cyst question

complicated ovarian cyst question

I have been having pain in my entire right side of of body; from just above my waist down. I had a hip replacement and revision in 1995 and 2004. My orthopaedic doctor says all is fine with my hip. My family doctor/OBGYN wanted to rule out any OB/GYN problems (pelvic varicosities or congestion) and ordered an transvaginal US. Nothing out of the ordinary was palpated on physical exam the week before. The US shows: The right ovary is enlarged measuring 5.9 by 4.2 by 3.1 cm. Within the right ovary there is an approximate 4.1 by 3.4 by 2.8 complicated cyst which contains septations and low level internal echos. There is a small amount of free pelvic fluid. I am 43 years old. My paternal grandmother had extensive cancer and died at the age of 51. She had extensive cancer of ?. THey think it was pancreatic but not sure if that was the primary location. We look very much alike in pictures. Could this type of ovarian cyst be malignant? My doctor ordered a repeat US in 4-6 weeks. I appreciate any information you may have. Thank you!

I am looking for help.  I am 30 years old and had a hysterctomy very early in life due to endometriosis.  I started having back pain only on my left side.  Ignored it.  Moved to my lower left abdominal side.  Went into the doctor and did an ultrasound to see a 3cm solid mass growing where an ovary used to be.  Been waiting on results of CA125 along with other blood tests to come back.  But in the mean time kind of freaking out on what this could be.  Everyone keeps telling me how young I am to have this type of cancer but everything I read points to it.  Should I be getting scared?  If that is what it is, what happens from there?  Will I get sick and not be able to care for my family?  I haven't asked many questions to my doctor.  From the time he saw it, it has been rush for this test and that test.  Just waiting for answers.  Is this really possible for someone my age?

I am in a very similar situation to you. I had one painful cyst that was simple. It lasted for 3 cycles and then burst. I had about 2 weeks of pain relief. It was about the same size as yours. Now I have, on the same ovary, a smaller complicated cyst with lots of problems. Pain shooting down my leg, pain around my back etc. Pain when the bladder gets full. I haven't even dreamed about having sex!

My doctor thinks it is only complicated because it formed so soon after the first cyst. She also thinks that it is because I had an IUD and that can cause cysts to form. Well one week ago the IUD came out and the pain she said that would get better didn't. I am going in next week for an appointment. I think surgery is going to be discussed as a last option. My fear is I just don't know if that is the right choice or if I should just deal with the pain and suck it up. I guess I will just figure that out when I talk to my doctor. If anyone has any advice for me please let me know!

In response to your question everything I have read states that for someone over 40 the risk of cancer goes up. I would demand that you get your cyst removed and keep calling because of the pain, or go to another doctor. For me I have a lower risk because I am in my 20's, yet still a risk. Quite possibly I will end up with surgery because the conservative treatments aren't working. I would recommend becoming proactive!
