by junamgen, Sep 26, 2007 07:53PM
I was diagnosed with stage3C last Nov. Have finished IP and IV of  cisplatin/taxol 6cycles and now is on taxol only( have done full dose 3 cycles and 1/2 dose 1 cycle). But the neuropthy symptoms is getting almost unbearable.  Dr is thinking about switch to ABRAXIN.  Has anyone used ABRAXIN for consolidation chemo and what I should expect ?

My mom also had 6 treatments of IP/IV, and then she did the 12 treatments of taxol.  She just finished up in September, and complained a lot about the neuropathy. She also started feeling it the most on her 3rd treatment of the taxol.  Her ca-125 ranges from 4 to 6.   I never heard of Abraxin for consolidation, but just wanted to wish you lots of luck.

A little history to get acquainted: After dx of stage 3 ovca in April 06, I completed 2 cycles IP and IV cisplatin/taxol (all the cisplatin I could tolerate) followed by 4 cycles IV carbo/taxol.

My oncologist said no recommendation was made for maintenance taxol --- perhaps you could bring up with your doctor stopping the maintenance taxol (or anything to replace it) altogether.

It was a little scary to turn the maintenance taxol down, but since my onc said there is no convincing evidence that it extends life, I decided quality of life was more important. Another year of taxol would have been just too much.

My neuropathy is fading and is half of what it was in treatment, and my CA-125 has decreased from 16 in Oct 06 to 14 in Sept 07. So far, so good without maintenance chemo!

Whatever you decide, all the best,
Westgal
