I had a "constant bleeding" problem off and on for several years. The first thing my general practitioner did was prescribe progesterone. It worked the first time, but the second time it didn't. She then referred me to an ob/gyn who said that the progesterone wasn't working because I needed estrogen as well. She put me on a combination birth control pill and that stopped the bleeding. I've had the problem off and on for years, and when I get really fed up birth control pills usually resolve it (sometimes I have to try different brands to get it right).
We've never figured out WHY this happens, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. I got pregnant easily (during a period when I wasn't having the bleeding problem) and had a baby 4 years ago (today, actually).
As far as the cyst, it could possibly be causing the bleeding, or not. If you have a hormone imbalance that's causing the bleeding, it could also be causing cysts to form.
The low CA-125 certainly doesn't point to cancer, but it's not a very reliable test. However, 99% of cysts are benign.
Good luck and let us know what happens.
I am glad you are seeing a gyn/onc because they've seen everything. The only thing I would recommend is having all your hormones checked. Wouldn't it be interesting to see the results.
Best wishes
Hi, you should ask for COMPLETE BLOOD WORK! I think you are anemic from the bleeding, this is why you are tired! I was too. If, you bleeding heavy, no reason to wait any longer. The surg. isn't a "big deal", but if you are loosing blood, the recovering time will be longer. Follow up with a doctor again, and ask for blood check for anemia. Sue
When I was between 35 and 40 I had the symptoms and the solution that your docs gave you. They told me it was endometriosis. Lots of pain and a menstral period that lasted two weeks, then three, etc. The progesterone did it for me.
