cyst twisting ovary? symptoms?

by Ms_Makita, Jun 13, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,I've been having problems with recurring complex cyst on both ovaries lasting months, and in right ovary, both 5cm,one in right ovary went away but my last ultrasound was in feb and had two complex cyst on left ovary and I feel I still have it as the symptoms/pain has not gone away,my question is how do you know if its twisted? sometimes I get the worst sharp stabbing/twisting pain with bad nausea/fever,I dont know if its trying to burst or grow but it is the worst pain.Had ca125 blood test to rule out ovc,but I'm still concerned, question if it is endometriosis.I'm having laparscopy in 2 months as I'm recovering from gallbladder surgery I had month ago and dont know if that is confusing the issue and symptoms with pain and nausea.I have CONSTANT pelvic/rectal/back and lower abdominal pain, bloating, gas, heartburn, nausea, pressue, appetite loss, huge weight loss, feel full quickly..have hard time eating.dr still gives me IBS theory..I never had IBS attacks last this long (its been 8 months)
If it was twisted wouldnt I get really sick? I went to er last week for the pain but after a 10 hr wait I left to go home and seen gyno next day who just prescribed me pain pills,no exam or ultrasound ordered! a family member recently had same problem but her cyst twisted around the bowels.Any advice appreciated,ty

hey....ive just come out of hospital because of my ovarian cyst twited and it needed to be removed...my advice if you really think it is twisting of causing you as much pain as you are saying is to be persistant!....i saw 6 doctors in 3 days before i was admitted for a scan and proper pain releif (non of the pain killers they had previously gave me worked so i had to be put on morphine) ..however i dont know if my case if different as i am from the UK and recieved my treatment for it over here.....i hope all works out for you

Hi ,ty for your reply. What was your symptoms? I have alot of cramping pain..sorry for the info..but it is worse after a bowel movement..double you over kind of pain.I was given few diff types of pain pills and none work but morphine. It seems to hurt on left and right side then get shooting pain to belly button area, if my dr dont order ultrasound I will go to hospital.I'm in usa (28 yrs old) and he feels at my age ovc is unlikely..still not sure. Thanks for your input,

hey....erm well i had slight discomfort for the week leading up to being admitted into hospital but i had previously had pain in the same place months before but the doctors just labelled me a mystery and sent me away....but 3 days before i was admitted into hospital i couldnt do anything because of the pain and couldnt seem to get comfy atall....it was a sharp constant pain on the side where the ovarian cyst was. i couldnt eat because i was constantly being sick and also had  a major lose in appitite and if i did eat i would get serve stomach pains...however the doctors did say i was strange in the way my stomach still stayed flat and wasnt tense (they all thought i wouldnt need surgery!!!) ...i hope i have helped!! x

the pain you are feeling could also be from the cyst rupturing and causing what is called mettle smirtz. it occurs when cyst rupture and the blood/fluid that filled it are touching your other organs. i am ony 18 and have suffered from painful cyst for about 6 years. i have found the only thing that makes the pain compleatly go away when they have ruptred are narcotics (from the hospital) something to try is going to yu ob/gyn and seeing if birthcontrol will help reduce/eliminate the cyst. hope this helps!

To: can anyone help us
I have a couple of questions for you my daughter is 13 years old and has her period since she was 10 with no problems with it......until last year when she got her first cyst which they removed with no problems....... This year in April she got another one which they decided to drain because of the pain it was causing....3 weeks later she had recurring pain and said they thought the ovary had closed over and was now refilling with fluid again they left her for 4 weeks this time (on morphine, codeine ,panadol, diclofenac.) we spent this time on leave from hospital but mostly in hospital.....the pain got to bad so they went back in to remove the cyst........they turned the ovary inside out and completely removed the cyst.......while they were there they burnt of what they questioned might be (endo).so we came home feeling like it was over for her... Symptoms are right side pain all the time nausea with pain and with meds.....vomits most night around 2.00am-- 4.00am Tiredness Off her food NOW we are into week four and the same pain is back meds are the same but they have added Haloperidol to keep the morphine down they want us to try and ride this out but I am worried sick about her I can understand how the ovary can close over and repeat the same thing over and over again can you help explain this to me PLEASE.
