debulking surgery

by Rosy75, Jul 30, 2008 06:59PM
My granddaughter had debulking surgery on the 20th of june, it lasted 26 hours.  She had trouble after she returned home, she had stayed 15 days in the hospital.  Two days after she was home the wound would not close so she returned to the hospital and had a corrective surgery that lasted six hours.  The surgeron said she would be well after this but because she is very weak she cot a bacteria and a fungy.  Her OvCa is stage 3 or 4.  She is still with fever, not very high and vominting.  Would this be normal???   Thanks for your help   Rosy75

It sounds like your granddaughter needs a wound specialist,. they are trained for infection and the like... Has she had her chemo?  I was high risk because I am a type 1 diabetic and they had a wound specialist come in and check on me the day after surgery... Please suggest they call in a consult... hoping she feels better soon.

What your granddaughter is experiencing is anything but normal......if she hasn't returned to the hospital she definately should.  Please be pro-active for her if she is unable to assert herself.......she is a lucky girl to have a grandmother who is looking after her.  Please do keep us posted.
Peace.

Yes, she should be seeing a wound specialist... the infection can make it much harder for her to heal. I would not say this is "normal" because this has more to do with surgery than with cancer.

Keep us posted.
