dermoid cyst

by divya254, May 08, 2009 04:24PM
I was having PCO and i was on clomid 1 month . after a utrasound doctor found a cyst of "solid appearing mass 36*50*34 mm . and dermoid cyst no pelvinic free fluid " now she asked me to do CA 125,CEA and HCG beta subunit quant test ? Dr what does it mean ? is there anything serious ? I have done untrasound test 6 months back and there was no cyst like this. Is this created because of clomid treatment? Do I have options other than surgery. I am worried that doctor may go for the option of removing my ovary rather than the cyst. found in a forum that so many people are removed their overy because of this cyst .i am 28 years old . Please send me your response. Thanks.

Hi There

clomid for one month is unlikely to cause a solid mass.

dermoid cysts, which are benign tumors that come from the egg cell of the ovary, have a classic appearance on ultrasound.  Surgery to remove the cyst is the best strategy when the dermoid is over 4 cm.  Since you did not have  this on ultrasound 6 months ago, I would recommend a repeat ultrasound in a month to be sure it is real. (may be something related to ovulation and not be there next time.
best wishes
