do you think it's cancer?

email: ***@****

ok so a few months ago i went to the doctor because my side hurt but with in five minutes he called my mom and told her he was sending me to the ER because it might be appendicitis. at the ER they did CT scans, ultrasounds, and many other tests to find out what what was wrong but the only thing they said they could find was swollen lymph nodes in my pelvis and a cyst on my ovary. now im only 18 so i dont think that it would be very common to have ovarian cancer but could it be a possibility? my symptoms are as follows in order of them happening:
- nausea
- lower back pain
- breast pain
- horrific pain on my right side right above the pelvic bone
could this possibly be cancer? please help!
Thanks, Nicky

You're absolutely correct, I'm sorry if I ill-advised.  The CA125 test is not a "proof positive" of cancer.

I believe that by writing down all your feelings and questions, and making sure you have the answers that satisfy you, you will feel much better, and know so much more about yourself!

The CA125 test is not realiable for signifying OVCA, especially in pre menopausal women.  the only way to correctly diagnose OVCA is through a biopsy or tissue removed during surgery.  95% of all cysts are benign.  Make an appointment with a GYN and get your answers from him/her/

Hi Nicky,

I would think that if these tests were done a few months ago and you still have these symptoms that you should be going back to the doctor asap.  From what I can gather your cyst can cause you these symptoms.  Best to go to a Gynecologist and especially if your pain is 'horrific' as you have described.  No pain is normal, so get it seen to as soon as possible.

Hi Nicky,
The OBGYN can do a test called a CA125 to determine whether or not the cyst is cancerous.  It's a blood test.  Did they tell you what kind of a cyst it was (by looking at the CT scan or ultrasound?)
You should follow up with a gyno you feel comfortable talking to, and make sure they get the copies/results of the tests they did in the ER.  Then, after writing down all your questions (and maybe taking your mom with you) sit down with the doctor & talking it over.
