doxil carboplatin

ehr
diagnosed with stage 4 OC in late 2002, after 6 rounds taxol/ carboplatin and 9 smaller rounds of taxol for maintance was in remission for nearly 3 years. recently CA125 and 27-29 markers rised 35 and 175 respectively, CT and Pet/CT showed nothing. The marker increase was an indication that there was a recurrence and my Doctor at NYU has started second line treatment of Doxil/ Carboplatin - 4 treatents 3 weeks apart and then we will see. Had the first treatment with minimal side effects - almost too good to be true. Doxil is supposed to be more tolerable than taxol and generally no hair loss. Anybody out there who has had experience with Doxil and could let me know what i can expect, its too good to be true that the side effects could be this easy

I have just finished 6 months of Doxil and yes it was alot tamer than some of the stuff I have had, its still not a walk in the park though.  I usually felt kind of tired and nausea after about 4-5 days after the chemo but it only lasted for a few days usually.  After about 3 months my hands and feet got very sore and blistered, one of the side effects, that usually happened about 2 weeks after the chemo and lasted for about a week.  Be careful not to use any hot water on your hands, darn no doing dishes!! I used 100% aloe vera gel on my hands that seemed to help some.Anyway good luck to you.

My wife is on Doxil, but without the Carbo, this is her 3rd relaspse, she is doing well with just slight side effects, one is thinning of hair, infact she has gone 'crew-cut' to help, otherwise just the usual slight sickness for the fist 3 days. Good luck to you.
