HI. I WAS ON DOXIL ON A TRIAL. I HAD 6 TREATMENTS BEFORE IT STARTED TO LOOSE IT'S EFFECTIVNESS. I HAD DIFFICULTY IN SWALLOWING AND STOMATITIS OF THE MOUTH AS WELL AS ULCERS BUT NO PAINS IN THE STOMACH. I HAD NO APPETITE AND WAS ALWAYS TIRED.I HAD THE FOOT AND HAND SYNDROME AND AT ONE STAGE WAS SO BAD I SPENT 2 WEEKS IN HOSPITAL. BEING ON THE TRIAL I WAS REQUIRED TO HAVE CT SCANS AND GATED HEART SCANS EVERY 2 MONTHS. I DO BELIEVE IT WORKS ON SOME PEOPLE AND WOULD RECCOMEND IT TO EVERYONE. HOPE ALL GOES WELL WITH YOU.
Hi. Sorry to hear about your Mother's complications. I took Doxil for 3 treatments. It really made my stomach quessy. Any hiccups can be due to that. I think it is definately irritating her stomach and then from there her digestive system. Some women can really handle it and some cannot tolerate it. The swallowing difficulty is not good. Be persistent in finding out what this is. Its so important to eat good while on chemo.
Best of luck to you and your mother.
I hesitate to say that my own experience is any guide but for what it's worth - I was on Doxil (Caelyx here in the UK) for 2 cycles recently. I did have problems with my throat - felt as if it was irritated for a period both cycles and whilst I didn't have real problems swallowing it was uncomfortable. During days 4-15 approx my whole digestive system was upset but then righted itself for the rest of the cycle. I've had this with other chemos but it affected my stomach more with the Doxil not just my colon/bowel as with the others. Hope this helps - may not have any real bearing on your mother's experience. Good luck, Jenny
