hi i was on taxol carb before this one this is my second round of chemo.the oncologist is sending me something for the fungus.- the cough does get worse when i lay down. i thought it was in my throat but sounds like pneumonia-which i had when i was diag orginally. thank you i'll talk to my md. tomarrow thanks again sheri
It might be worth it to see a dermotologist about the rash that continues. I was under the impression that it would eventually go away as the chemo leaves one's system. It's possible, however, it made you develop some kind of fungus that a topical cream or oral medication might be able to help. I was lucky in that it didn't do anything to me except the mouth sores and thrush. It took a while for that to go away, and I still have issues with it 2 years out from Doxil. Yeast can also irritate skin, so it wouldn't be surprising if it could be that.
What other chemos have you been on besides Doxil? I'm asking because of the cough you mentioned that you have developed. If you have been on a lot of chemo over the years, it's possible chemo toxicity can develop in your lungs. It sounds worse than it is, though. Taxol can cause it, but especially Gemzar. It's basically congestion that forms in your lungs as a reaction to chemo. It might show up in a scan as something similar to pneumonia. It isn't pneumonia, though, and antibiotics won't help it. Is your cough a dry cough, and does it get worse when you lay down? So far, I've been told that breathing treatments can help, but nothing but time will heal it. I see a respiratory specialist to monitor my progress, and it is slowly getting better. My last scan two weeks ago showed my lungs are clear, finally.
Best wishes to you.
