dr's don't seem concerned

starting having symptoms in march 08, can't eat much at one time even when hungry.  feel sick to stomach, just don't feel "well", after a 17 day period went to dr and had a ct scan, showed enlarged uterus, 6 cm complex cyst on left ovary pressing against uterus, also firoid tumor.  Have had tv/us in past and have had simple cysts and the same fibroid tumor, but fibroid tumor doubled in size in 1 year.  ct recommended tv/us, had that done showed basically same thing as ct scan except said probably hemmorhagic cyst on left and left ovary was enlarged,  recommended another us in 6 weeks, had that and said left was somewhat smaller, everything was the same as the others.  dr.said nothing to be concerned about.  didn't recomend any follow up,  any thoughts or suggestions?  i am 45, also had weight loss and have constant dull pelvic ache and back ache.  went to another dr for 2nd op, waiting to hear something.  thanks for any advice.

You don't need a referral to get your records.  They are yours.  The gyn can get them faxed to the office or you can have it done before the appointment.  I sure don't blame you for not wanting to have to meet the deductible twice!!  You are not being paranoid or extreme.  I wish you the best.  Marie

Everything is probably all right ... but I think you need to get to a gyn with all of your records.  Under HIPAA, you have a right to your entire chart from the current doctor's office including all test results.  Some require you to pay a couple $$ for the copying, but it's worth it.  I would get a complete copy for myself ... and then you can give a copy of your copies to the gyn.  There's a peace of mind that can only come from having a definitive diagnosis.  Good luck.  Here's the  HIPAA website ...

I can get in to a gyn without a referral, but I won't have my records.  I have my own copies of the radiology reports on 3 of my tv/us and ct scan, but not my most recent tv/us, so I only know what the fnp told me it said.  I like to see and read it myself.  Also would like to find out something because I have a high deductible on my health insurance and I have met it this year, don't want to have to paying that again in the new year.  tired of being told that "it's jut part of getting older".  I need the refferal so that my records will go too.  I keep telling myself that they're probably right and try not to worry about it, but what if they are wrong?  don't want to be a statistic ! I think you know your own body and know when something isn't right. thanks for reading and responding.

I don't know about where you are but here you can't get into a gyn without a referral.  It is good she is doing that.  Just keep calling and following up until you have your appointment.

have not had the ca-125 test, left ovary is enlarged 5.8 cm x 4.5 cm, ct scan said 6cm complex cyst, us after said the part about enlarged ovary.  friend that is fnp said i should find a dr and insist on laporascopic investigation. have had cysts for over 5 years and basically never knew, found them on u/s they were doing for the fibroid tumor.  also have strong family history of breast cancer if that matters at all.  I would rather they just take out the left ovary and be done with it and not worry, but don't wan't to be paranoid or extreme.  started all this in may, have had 1 ct scan and 2 tv/us since the, and really don't know anymore than when I started.  also I live in rural area.

Please remember that over 95% of cysts are benign.  There is information on the types of cysts on the health pages (top right).  Have they indicated what size your cyst is?  The fact that you are feeling pain is concerning.  Insist that they rule out ovarian cancer (not that you do have it but you need to push for action).  Have you had a CA-125 test?  Let's hope your 2nd opinion results in at least a laporascopic look.  Good luck and please let us know how you're doing over on the Ovarian Cyst forum.  With any luck you won't have any need of the cancer forum.
