I have been gone to the OB b/c of severe pain and pressure in my abdomen. I had a UT infection about a month ago and I thought that's all it was. They did a urine specimen and said that the UT infection was gone. The doctor ordered an ultrasound and I have a 5cm blood filled cyst on my left ovary. I do have severe bladder pain and burning. My OB said that can happen with a large cyst b/c it puts pressure on the top of your vaginal wall causing an intense pain and feeling like you need to pee. So, I hope that helps.

hi there - if you have blood in your urine with no infection, you should be referred to an urologist. that is what happened to me. it might just be a case of iflammation in your bladder, but you will need an urologist to check you out on that one. good luck :)
Hi,
wow - i know just what you mean with bladder pain. i have had alot of pain in my general abdomenal area for about the last 3 months. Finally went to ob/gyn & had an internal, but wound up getting my period right before the appointment, so she didn't do the PAP. By the time I had my follow up appointment a week later for the Pap test, I had this incredible amount of pain with my bladder. I had been aware that all of my abdominal pain for the last several months would increase dramatically when my bladder was full, but this was definitely an increase in pain & pressure. It felt very much like a bladder infection to me, so I told her at that appointment - she took a urine & said the white blood cell count was elevated & there was a moderate amount of blood. Wrote me a scrip for Macroban (sp?)antibiotic, but sent me to get a more detailed urine test first. That test came back as totally normal - no infection!!
Because of all the pain that I have been having, she sent me for a transvaginal ultrasound as well. She also sent me for mammogram & breast ultrasound, saying she felt density in my left breast - I was a wreck by the time I left the office!!
Today I had my follow up, she said mammogram & ultrasound were fine - just dense tissue. The transvaginal ultrasound showed a hemmorhagic cyst (18 mm i think?) on the right ovary (which is definitely where pains are sharper) & they were unable to see the left ovary b/c of bowel.
Much like Tina800, she gave me the free box of Yasmine birth control pills & scheduled me for a follow up in 3 months. Also, tells me to take lots of Advil when my pain feels alot like early labor pains!
I have to say that I am just really paranoid that there is more than meets the eye & I'm scared - should I be? You all seem to be so aware of what's going on!! I am a 41 (42 in november) year old mother of 3 girls (a 15 yr old; 5 yr old & 3 yr old) and just am so totally exhausted & also very grumpy because I'm in a constant source of pain. My marriage is definitely affected because I am just so grumpy or depressed from pain & I never want to have sex anymore, since it usually produces even worse cramping afterward. My poor girls just want me to be their happy fun mommy again & I'm so preoccupied with fear.
Any advice?
Also, Rackburt - did you have your bladder pain before the surgery as part of the initial symptoms?
Thanks for letting me vent - I haven't voiced aloud all of these fears to anyone.
She did take pictures but I'm not sure if there were any taken of the bladder. So, do you all think I should just continue on with my ob/gyn?
I don't think it's bladder spasms because there's no coming and going. Just sharp pains that are directly above my pubic bone and to the left just a little that increases the longer I'm up doing anything.
Thanks so much for any insight you may have.
I had severe bladder spasms about 1 week post-op. The pain would double me over. This is caused mainly from the catheter. It does the work for your bladder and then the bladder spasms when it has to work on it's own. Plenty of water and advil helped get me through this rough patch.

If I recall my training correctly, then urgency and pain can be symptoms of a 'muscular' problem within the bladder walls. The bladder walls contract, causing the discomfort and need to void, even if the bladder is not full. There are medications that will help with this situation. You will probably need to consult with a urologist.
It is also possible that you have endometrial implants on the bladder itself, and that these implants "cycling" monthly along with the rest of your reproductive system irritates the bladder walls. Did your doctor take photographs of this area at the time of your surgery? If so, then perhaps some clues could be gained from inspecting the photographs.
Please check back with your surgeon immediately. They might send you to a urologist. I don't think it's normal to experience that type of pain after your surgery at all. I personally haven't heard of bladder pain, but I do know you can have all kinds of strange pains, but it shouldn't debilitate you that way. Please call your doctor.
Best of luck,
Shawn
