laparotomy end of July 2006; still have pains when pushing on abs. wish pregnanc

Hello All,

I'm a 27 year old female, normally healthy, (used to like lifting weights and working out a) but these days, i'm on the fatter side, 175 pounds (78kgs), 5 feet 3 inch and a lot of the fat is on my abs (my waist is probably over 40 inch, which is a lot for a medium frame)
I had an emergency laparotomy done end of July, 2006 to both the left and right ovaries, due to severe pain; followed by 2 months of rest.
I have been married for over a year, and we really want to get pregnant. However, we are a little worried b/c if we push on the lower abs, or press the lower abs, I feel pain (probably around 5 out of 10 scale) as if the wounds haven't healed yet; however, i only feel pain while pushing or pressing, not during other activities, i.e. for example, i can left my legs for kickboxing,
Should we wait to get pregnant? Should i go for kickboxing or other exercises, that work my stomach muscles?

Hereditary background -> everyones been gifted with at least 2 children, and if there were any cysts, they were much later in life. So I will keep being perplexed - why me? but also keep praying that we can have (healthy) kids!

Thanks in advance

I will try and offer some motherly advice to you...........but am not too sure if I can offer any help.  I would definitely be discussing yourpain situation with your ob/gyn - with respect to wanting to get pregnant.
I just had an enormous cyst removed Dec 5th (and have to tell you at this time and upon a pelvic pressure exam) I did not have pain, which included a total hysterctomy I had done.

This could be related to other things...........
Hope this helps.   I dont know if there are adhesions in there from the surgery or not.

Good Luck

The first key to getting pregnant is being relaxed.  Especially in today's fast paced society.  It took me two years trying naturally.  Then I had a human fist sized dermoid cyst I didn't know I had spontaneously rupture.  I had surgery, the doctor saved my ovary with laparotomy.  My husband & I went on our first "real" vacation in fifteen years sailing in the British Virgin Island 3 months after surgery.  I found out about 2 weeks later I was already pregnant.
From what I have read too many doctors are too quick to advise fertility treatments in effort to please the couples who are desperate and willing to pay the price. I have read you should wait at least 2 years trying naturally before pursuing alternative methods.  Know that some fertility treatments are not FDA approved as such.  In other words the hormones they use are approved for treatments like endometriosis, etc...  I suggest you give your body a little more time to heal and try not to rush things.  Mother nature has your body naturally set up to space your births apart at least nine months.  You have only been married a year.  Keep the faith and enjoy establishing a firm relationship with your husband.  Children grow up and leave the home or at least that is the goal.  It is most important you have a healthy relationship with your husband as a good foundation.  I say this as a child of divorced parents but I have a 23 year relationship with my husband.  God knows your heart and desire for children so keep the faith.  My prayers for your success.

My surgery was July 3rd and I still get all sorts of weird and wonderfull pains. Body takes longer to heal than you are told (8 weeks HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA gufaw gufaw)

6 months and I am STILL to scared to attempt a sit up for fear of what might be unleashed.

I have a laparotomy on 11/22, and I still have aches and pains every once in a while.  The other day my boyfriend rolled across my belly and I was in some pain.  I'm 19 years old.  I agree with everyone else, we all heal differently.

I think you should definitely discuss your pain with your doctor.  I had a laparotomy 11/21 and no way is my stomach as tender as yours.  However, as someone recently posted, we all recover different.

I hope everything works out well for you!

I am also 27 years old. I had a laparotomy a year ago in October when my son (only child so far) was only 3 1/2 months old. I had a rare ovarian cancer called immature teratoma that strikes younger people (usually 18-19 year olds), but this is extremely rare so don't get too worried. There is nobody in my family who has had any gyn problems ever-no cancers or cysts or anything. Why me, right? I had one ovary and tube removed with the surgery, but still have one ovary and have had problems with cysts on the ovary. I also still occasionally have aches and pains on the opposite side where there is no ovary and doctors can never tell me what causes it, other than it may be scar tissue or it could be pain from my ovary radiating to the other side. I would definitely talk to your OBGYN about your pain because you want to be as healthy as possible when conceiving. If there are any problems, it would be better for you and for the baby to get them taken care of before you get pregnant. I am in the same boat. I want to have another child, but I have to wait because I have a cyst on my ovary that they don't think is cancer, but it still could be cancer so I have to wait until it's removed before trying to have another child.

Thanks everyone for responding. I really appreciate the support.
I went to the doctor yesterday, he pushed down on my stomach and said I have nothing to worry about, it will just take time to heal, and it will hurt, but that trying to conceive is fine.

I also took an ovulation test with a kit, but it didn't come out positive (I'm in the middle of my cycle)
I have now decided to give up the kit, until we try for 4-5 months, else it brings on too many negative thoughts.

The doctor said any potential infertility can be looked upon after about a year from now, so as you guys suggested, I will work on my relationship in the meantime, so we can deal with all of the cards that God has laid out.
