menopausal and worried about ovarian condition

by lily57, Nov 30, 2008 01:25PM
I am 57 and have been menopausal for 8 years. I've had ovarian cysts before and never bore children because I did not get pregnant. A year ago I went to the doc because I had discomfort in the right side of my belly and told her I thought I had cysts, which she almost scoffed at because of my age. I do have 3 large cysts, fibroids and possibly endometriosis. There are calcium deposits in many places. I cannot sit without feeling discomfort and the discomfort (always there) seems to affect my groin, my right leg and up my back to my kidney area. At times I get jabbing under my right arm. The discomfort is non-specific but even as I sit to write this, I can feel it in my belly, groin and upper leg. I had a CA 125 test done in May and the Gyn, felt the levels were not to worry about. I had another ultrasound, including the internal exam, last week and the radiologist said the cysts had not changed and were not simple; they had "hard bits in them". At one point she had me press on my right stomach area as she was doing the internal exam and said "It's so big I can't see it all." I've no idea what she meant, but she left and told me to discuss my results with the specialist.  If any one can help with some clue as to what is happening in me, I'd be grateful.

Is this the same doctor that scoffed at you for thinking you had cysts after menopause? I think the first thing I'd do is get a different doctor. It's possible to develop problems after menopause. I did. Surprised me since I figured my body had gone into hibernation so to speak. But stuff still happened. Only a decent doctor will be able to figure out exactly what's going on in there and make a plan to ease your pain. Also, if you haven't already, check over on the ovarian cysts board. There are women of all ages that have gone through this or are dealing with it now.

Thanks for the support. I've not returned to the scoffing doc and will call the specialist today.
