No have not looked into it. Could you please send me a link?
Right right on the human studies, just not FDA...have to be careful on the responses, ya know, because unless they say it's a "drug" over here passed with FDA clinical trials, you cannot say it will have 'any' affect on cancer ;) LOL our wonderful system :)
Have you looked into Maitake D-Fraction...it's my fav.
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that 13C studies have actually been done on rats and humans (women with breast and ovarian cancer) with positive effects. Also I currently have LMP borderline serous tumour so I do not require kemo for my type that is why I thought it would be perfect for me as mine is slow growing and hopefully can kill the implants rather than having to have constant surgery and also in the hope to prevent it ever turning invasive.
Also my naturopath is absolutely brilliant and has ben doing extensive research for me. The supplement is a concentrated form similiar to the ones in the study, so I am going to give it a shot. Also not sure if you have heard of it but there is a urine test avaliable that measures the 2 and 16 estrogens (one bad, one good) and shows how your body metabolises estrogen, which I am getting done so the affects of the medication can be closely monitored and with any luck all the bloody bad estrogens die off.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed reponse, greatly appreciated.
Not one of the ladies :) but very familiar with i3c when I was researching for my mom. This actually does work according to a UCLA study (and others), but here is what you need to know:
- There is much controversy about I3C vs DIM...both are essentially from cruciferous vegetables, however oral ingestion of Indole 3 Carbinol has been shown to alter the metabolism of estrogen in a beneficial manner. Yet, there is a company that makes a DIM version that is supposed to be super absorbable...the jury is still out on which one is better.
- Basically what I3C does is block estrogen receptors (your body has a limited amount, so you want to block as many as possible). I3C is a 'weak' estrogen.
- UCLA study shows that I3C *combined* with Genestien (from fermented soy) showed dramatic effects on Ovarian Cancer (In Vitro). Their study suggested that if this was to be taken in supplement form, it would require large amounts (they did not specify and no further public research was done).
- In fact, the UCLA researchers say that just taking food (diet) alone would not reproduce the same effects they had in their studies. Their study showed that they were able to stop the spread (metastasis) of breast and ovarian cancer in Vitro.
- So you would need large amounts of I3C. But please don't think that should be the only supplement to take in the cancer battle...it targets one part of the entire battle plan to destroy the cancer...I3C is used (from what we know so far) for the spread of the cancer.
- I3C should not be able to turn bad cells back into normal ones, basically all it is doing is blocking the estrogen receptors which some cancers need to spread. But, what it also does is force the cancerous cell to stop at 'checkpoints' along it's normal cycle that it doesn't do now...which can help it say "oh, I guess I should die off since I'm not a good cell anymore)"....that's what we want. Basically cancer cells are just normal cells that just don't die (that's why they are hard to kill).
As always, I3C is not FDA approved in any clinical trial (because it's too expensive to do one), so we have no "proof" that it will work in humans. It would be nice to see the NCI or others non-profits do more research on it and other supplements. Be sure to tell/ask your doctor if you want to take it as 'some' supplements can interefere with Chemo and they should be able to determine that (The pharm companies usually have identified which ones during clinical trials).
Genestien is a very important supplement in addition to I3C (according to the UCLA study) to take as it is also a weak estrogen (phytoestrogen). I have an article about it on my website (see profile page). If you are looking for a 'mainstream' way to get it, check out the Phenoxodiol Phase III trial which essential just a slightly altered version of Genestien going mainsteam
Keep fighting!
