missed period, what about my ultrasound?

I am on birth control and I *always* have my period on Mondays. This Monday I was due to have one but it didn't happen... now it's Tuesday and I'm still waiting. I would normally wait a bit longer before complaining about this kind of thing since I might still get my period this week, but I scheduled to have an ultrasound this Friday because that's when my period was supposed to end.
So my question is how important is it that they wait until the period to take an ultrasound? Would it make much of a difference if I had my ultrasound without having my period? I have had one period since my last ultrasound in January and I was instructed to wait two cycles before checking up on the cyst again. I really don't want to wait and reschedule my appointment, though... I have been in a lot more pain recently than I was in January and it seems to be disturbing my bladder and bowel movements now too. Yesterday I went to bed with a nagging pain in my side and then woke up with it still there in the morning.
It was a relatively normal looking 1.5cm septated cyst when it was diagnosed in January.

Oh and I'd go in to see my doctor, but she's all booked up this week :/. Hope you guys can help instead.

I don't think that you will have a problem.  I had my last Ultrasound during my period and there was no problem.  I was on the pill for 7 years and believe me sometimes my period would come 2-3 days later than usual so you may still get your period.  I would say keep your appointment.

Good luck to you!

I think you should definately keep your appointment; especially since your pain has increased and continues.  Pain is a sign that something is going on....you need to find out what it is.
Actually, you are lucky to have an appointment scheduled right now!
Hopefully  you will get answers very soon.
Peace.

I'd keep the appointment. Both my first u/s and my 6wk follow up were done during my period. Just tell the tech if you start.
The fact that your period is late might be a symptom of the cyst on the ovary, since your on bc and all. Hope your nagging pain goes away soon! :-)
Take care,

Absolutely keepn the appointment.  Who knows how long before they can schedule the next one and you have waited long enough.
