Hi, Ca 125 test (Cancer Antigen 125 test) is a test to measure certain protein in the blood.  It is used as a tumor marker for ovarian cancer because this kind of protein lives on ovarian cancer cells and tumors.  If elevated (normal is 0-35) it could possibly indicate ovarian cancer but there are other reasons for it to be elevated especially in pre-menopausal women.  So it cannot definitively diagnose ovarian cancer.  I think though that if your friend gets back an elevated Ca 125 and with the presence of a cyst or mass, possibly surgery will be performed to biopsy the cyst to find how if it is indeed cancer.  Godd luck to you.

I think u mean ca125 for ruling out or helping dx of OVCA. Elevated ca125 doesn't mean u have OVCA, but in most OVCA patiens their ca125 were higher than normal.
