I had severe abnormal vaginal bleeding beginning 02/14/08 with my normal cycle. I had always been normal like clockwork until that time. I immediately went to the doctor ( a new one) and was told for six months that the continued daily bleeding (yes, everyday for six months!) was normal and due to premenopause. She refused to do a pap smear or exam citing the excuse that she couldn't do one because I was bleeding. After six months of the continued bleeding and no stopping, at an appointment on 07/29/09 I demanded that she do a pelvic exam. When she started she immediately stopped saying I was bleeding and she couldn't do it. Then she referred me to a different doctor. It wasn't until then that I learned she misled me and that she was not an ObGyn. When I saw the ObGyn she referred me to a few days later, he found a mass on my cervix. Two days later, after a biopsy, I was told I had cervical cancer. Last week I received copies of my medical records because I am really disgusted that this doctor misled me about her being an ObGyn and the fact she didn't do anything for six months and then I learned I had cancer. Imagine my surprise to read the report from the ultrasounds that were done on 02/20/08 -- a fibroid and "numerous nabothian cysts on cervix". The "impression" suggested an MRI and/or hysteroscopy. This doctor didn't even tell me about the fibroid or nabothian cysts! After doing some reading, I learned that in rare occasions the nabothian cysts can turn cancerous. Also, the abnormal bleeding is a sign of cervical cancer.
Obviously this doctor shouldn't be a doctor and I would love to make her pay for my medical bills! The cancer treatments were over $62,000! I am still paying for bills that were not covered by insurance that are about $2,000!
I would definitely make sure that if the doctor tells you you have cysts, that you demand something be done about them. Unfortunately, this doctor felt I didn't need to even know about the cysts!
I also had many nabothian cysts on my cervix that the doctor said were normal; they really don't see any alarm for them. I had a total hysto back in February (not because of the nabothian) and they took my cervix as well and said it had many of those on there, but, again, they said that is normal for the cervix. Hope that sets your mind at ease.......... Elizabeth
Hi. I recently had a Nabothian Cyst discovered during ultrasound also. My doc said it is completely benign. It is a plugged gland on the cervix. He said it is like a pimple.
Hi...I dont really have many answers for you but I do feel that you should NOT be afraid to ask your Doctor anything! Just remember that you have to be your own adovacate when it comes to your health. Most cysts are benign so try not to worry. Be sure to ask as many questions as you want to your Doctor. If you are that uncomfortable with your Doctor than you should switch to a Doctor you feel more comfortable speaking with.
